What Do You Think Of Quick Response (Qr) Codes?
Krydos replied to xwinuser's topic in Technology and the Internet
Yeah, I've had a QR reader on my phone for years. They have been pretty slow taking hold in the US, but I see them more and more each day. It's a really fun way to go to a company's website, and SO much faster than trying to type in a URL. I go to a lot of concerts and a really good use is for a relatively unknown band to put a QR on the wall or pole or something that links to a couple free songs and their website.- 4 replies

[SOLVED] If Wildcards Dns Supported Would Be Better!
Krydos replied to mhea's topic in Customer Service
Ok, your site net.heliohost.org has been moved to an IP that should be accessible in China. -
My advice, if you wish to be a moderator/administrator, is just to read the forum and find questions that haven't been answered yet and if you know how to help them or you suspect you know what the problem is just post and help out. Obviously, you won't have access to all the tools that we do to begin with, but that doesn't mean you can't use the publicly available tools such as whois, dig and stuff like that to help solve issues. Also, a large number of posts are regarding someone thinking their site is broken because they haven't cleared their browser cache too. Anything like that that you can answer and help with will reduce the amount of work that the admins/moderators have to do and we can spend more time with our more specialized access and tools to solve the problems that aren't as simple. If you prove that you are active for an extended amount of time, possess the ability to express yourself in a professional manner through text, and are helpful to the community you won't have to ask for a promotion. Futhermore, there is sometimes an internal debate amongst us as to whether we need more admins or not. By finding posts to reply to and helping out you will be proving that there is room for at least one more. (I know a lot of this information quite intimately because all of the above is basically my story of how I became an admin not so very long ago.)

In order for a customer support request to be escalated it first has to be posted in the customer service forum and then an administrator has to escalate it for you.

[SOLVED] If Wildcards Dns Supported Would Be Better!
Krydos replied to mhea's topic in Customer Service
We have already discussed adding wildcard dns support and I believe the decision was not to support it because it would need to be enabled on all accounts. http://www.helionet.org/index/topic/10814-please-help-e-to-add-a-serveralias-lifetasycom-for-my-addon-domain/ As far as not being able to view your webpage, that is because the Chinese government randomly blocks websites all over the internet. It has absolutely nothing to do with our servers or our service. We can move your account to a different IP address that isn't blocked by the Chinese government, thereby allowing residents of China to view your webpage if you that is what you're asking for? -
[Solved] Suspended: Hollyknows
Krydos replied to HollyKnows's topic in Suspended and Queued Accounts
There is no account in the database that matches that username or that domain. Most likely your account got deleted due to inactivity. Feel free to create a new account http://www.heliohost.org/home/signup and restore your site using any backup data that you may have. Keep in mind that once an account is deleted Heliohost removes all the data from our servers and we keep no backups for you. To prevent your new account from being deleted again please remember to log into cPanel at least once every 30 days. Sorry for any inconvenience that this has caused, but our systems have to delete inactive accounts to make room for accounts that are being used. -
I'm not too familiar with wordpress (it's been several years since I used it last) but a lot of modern CMS have an edit box in the admin section for recoding your themes through the browser. *shrug*

@thallys1, once again peslivre.net has not been purchased so it's not going to work. You either need to use a free domain like peslivre.heliohost.org or peslivre.tk or purchase peslivre.net through a domain register, such as, godaddy.com @cl58, what's wrong with SFTP? That's what I use to connect. Contradicting ports and services is probably only going to cause more confusion in an already confused user.
-
Anyways, once you have a functioning domain you can access ftp: host: ftp.<yourdomain> port: 1373 protocol: SFTP logon type: normal user: thallys1 password: <same as cpanel password>
-
Yeah, peslivre.heliohost.org doesn't exist. You could set your main domain to that using the link I provided though.
-
I think the first step would be registering peslivre.net if you're planning on buying it. If you don't want to buy that domain then you could use http://heliohost.org/home/support/scripts/domain to change your domain to something else.

Try clearing your cache maybe? All accounts should be able to log in from the bottom of the homepage now: http://www.heliohost.org/home/
-
You're going to have to be a little more specific. I tested webmail on both stevie and johnny and they both seem to be working fine. What is your account name? What server are you on? Which webmail program are you trying to use? At what point of using webmail does the error occur? Any other information that might help us troubleshoot this? Is it still causing this error?

All accounts should be able to log in through the homepage now. If anyone still gets the "username not found" error please let us know.

All of our IPs are publicly accessible. Obviously, any IP that starts with 192.168.*.* or 10.*.*.* or even 172.16-32.*.* is not publicly accessible because they are reserved private addresses. If our IPs were not publicly accessible the only people who would be able to see our hosted webpages would be computers on the same private network as us, but no one else on the internet. You still haven't stated the quite simple question of what language you will be writing your software in, and yes if the language you use is hosted through apache then there are limits to how long a connection can be open and how long the scripts can run for. I have absolutely no idea what you mean by "org end and hacking spirit inside." If you mean that our address is heliohost.org it is because we are a non-profit organization and that is the best fit for us. We don't have a .com because we are not a commercial entity. We don't have .gov because we aren't part of the government. We don't have .edu because we aren't an educational institution, etc etc. org has absolutely nothing to do with hacking. I'm guessing you need to look into getting a dedicated server or at least a virtual dedicated server. Neither are services that we currently offer.

Your password and username has been emailed to the email address that you used for your cPanel account and your helionet account. Impressive ability to forget, by the way. Your account was created within nine hours ago. Have you ever seen the movie Momento?

[Solved] [SOLVED] Nicmil : Suspended - Topic Locked But Not Resolved
Krydos replied to frohlich's topic in Escalated Requests
@Tjoene, that is because he can't just leave his domain nameservers set to us without losing all his emails since he can't park the domain. @Frohlich, I spent several hours a few days ago looking for any traces of nicmil.co.uk on our servers. The only places I could find it listed was in log files of deleted domains. I figured this really shouldn't effect anything, but I deleted the records anyways. Obviously it didn't help though. I was hoping another admin could think of somewhere else that these remaining fragments might be hiding, but that doesn't seem to be happening either. So, I think it is past time to:
