No they're not. Out of their MANY services, only three of their services (one of which is barely there) are on top, that is Google the search engine, Google the mail, and Google the world. That's out of how many things now?. Well, you COULD count YouTube, but they cheated with that one.

If it doesn't, then your AV is crap.

Virus scanners catch viruses before they fully execute.

You mean, almost never? Presto has an IE compatibility mode.
-
Ugh, if you guys would of bothered to download it, scan it, and use it, you would of figured it out.

i don't think we need more members to become more active...i think we should be more active in order to make this site more appealing for new members to join... There's enough spam in these forums for it to be counted as active.

Yes, I know I was once a beginner, but did I start with Gentoo when I was a beginner? No. I'll repeat myself again, Gentoo is not for beginners. Just a side thing, I don't count Ubuntu as a Linux experience. Using the Live CD is no different from using the text installer, unless you just hate the CLI interface. You still have to compile the kernel, modules, dependencies, xwindow, xwindow managers, programs, etc. You still have to edit xorg to boot XDM, GDM, or whatever you would like to use to boot by default if you want a graphical login and if you want certain control. You still have to make sure all of your drivers compile. You still have to edit your fstab to add in your drives. You get absolutely no bonus in using the graphical install, besides circumventing a text install, if you're scared of that.

djbob has a dedicated server. If it comes to it, though, the ads plans will generate enough revenue to upgrade

Gentoo isn't for beginners, period.

You guys realize that the space is all a ruse, right? While they offer that much space, they don't nearly have enough HDD space to accommodate it. That's why they make attachment restrictions. They'll offer that much space, however, the standard person will never come near it. -
They're using bits and pieces of both sides of the company to improve the other side. Youtube has many improvements and features that were from Google Video.

Nope, you'd think so, but no. Funny enough, back in the olden days, Internet Explorer was nearly fully compatible with Netscape plugins (which code-base was used for Firefox), however, it was a strategy from Microsoft and they broke the compatibility on purpose to get people away from Netscape.

Programming languages are rarely that simple.

Studies show that the majority Republicans vote for Republicans and Democrats vote Democrats. Does it matter at all? No.

I bet you use Microsoft Windows. Presto renders much better and faster than Gecko.

Quantity does not equal quality. While there are many extensions, most of them are pure junk. As you can see from this thread, most people just use the same handful of extensions.
-
IE has it's own extensions anyways.

HTML is not programming. The author(s) of the programming "For Dummies" is too brief in explaining basics to beginners. They make horrible references and horrible beginner's books.
-
The "For Dummies" series are not qualified to teach beginners programming.
-
The best book for beginning C++ people, IMO, is "Beginning C++ Game Programming" by Michael Dawson. While it's focused on game programming in the CLI, it does teach you important concepts and programming techniques that are useful in every area of C++ programming in general.

That's a Mac for you, a bunch of useless temp files/directories.

You realise that you have the world's record for Gentoo installation, right (exaggeration). Most people's Gentoo installation takes 3-4 hours, all the way up to a day. Forty minutes is blazing fast for Gentoo. Unless you're talking about installing software, in which forty minutes is a long [bleeped!] time to install something. In nonsource-based distros (pretty much everything but Gentoo), it takes whatever time it takes to download a package from a repository, and somewhere between under a minute to a few minutes to install the software itself.

I've seen a first-timer plug in a PSP (it automounts) and copy over over 1GB worth of music, then unplugging it. I've done it several times, myself, on several different Macs. I have not seen this "instability" that you speak of.
