milano Posted May 20 Posted May 20 ...so can't even see why (got no mail or anything): It never had much activity, let alone any that might trigger suspension Quote
Unknown025 Posted May 20 Posted May 20 You were suspended for using a disposable email address, which is against our terms of service. Additionally, you're on Johnny, which is currently down: Quote
milano Posted May 20 Author Posted May 20 Wasn't that disposable given it's been the same for many years, but how do I set another then? Quote
KazVee Posted Thursday at 01:22 PM Posted Thursday at 01:22 PM The server your account is on (Johnny) crashed 2 weeks ago. Please see https://helionet.org/index/topic/67733-when-it-rains-it-pours/ for more information. Once the server is back up, we can look at changing your email address to something non-disposable where you will be able to receive emails. Once more news is available about the Johnny rebuild, it wil be posted in the News section of the forum here: https://helionet.org/index/forum/1-news/ Quote
milano Posted Saturday at 04:52 PM Author Posted Saturday at 04:52 PM Sorry if the mail used needs replacing: Sure enough https://heliohost.org/status/?u=milano keeps telling me "That account is awaiting validation... Resend" without any mail coming, but when using for parameter "u" the mail address now out of favor instead: "That account has been backed up and then taken offline due to inactivity." I got a backup tarball this way, from 2024 though. So if you can enable the account for long enough to change the mail address, I'll be happy to do so. Quote
milano Posted yesterday at 02:55 PM Author Posted yesterday at 02:55 PM (edited) As http://milano.heliohost.org had been active until just before this month's crash, and https://helionet.org/index/forum/91-email-support/ shows other subdomains getting 2024 backups as well for which support may have more recent files recoverable, if unsuspending the the account won't help, I'd also much appreciate whatever you can get from this year or the last. wolstech Posted yesterday at 03:17 PM Posted yesterday at 03:17 PM Your account wasn't eligible for automatic recreate because it was suspended for a TOS violation (specifically, disposable email address) at the time of the crash. Per our Terms of Service, disposable email addresses are not allowed. Please provide a valid, non-disposable, email address so we can reinvite you. Krydos can assist with the backup piece. There is a backup from 2024-07-25 (the last Johnny crash) available for your account, and I suspect there may also be an archive from August 2024 that could be used as a backup too, since there was an unarchive event in the logs for it. Newer files (but not databases) may be recoverable from the crashed server as well. Quote
milano Posted 22 hours ago Author Posted 22 hours ago Apologies, I've sent you by Personal Message another mail address to reactivate milano with. @Krydos "Newer files ... recoverable from the crashed server as well" would be very welcome of course, if not on restored into the file system anyway through recreating the account. wolstech Posted 22 hours ago Posted 22 hours ago Invite sent. Recreating the account just gives an empty account, there is no automatic restore of any data. Escalating to Krydos to see what newer data is available for you. Quote

Thanks again, it didn't let me pick heliohost.org anymore though: Can it be recovered (or files restored if need be into the new path for US TLD) ? Quote
wolstech Posted 17 hours ago Posted 17 hours ago The .org domains are no longer available to users (they haven't been available for several years now), but users who had one were allowed to keep using it up until their account was deleted or until it was changed by the user. All Johnny users lost those domains during the crash because all Johnny accounts were deleted as a result of it. You can use the .us one and just upload the files into httpdocs like you normally would. Assuming your software is built decently, it shouldn't matter what domain you're using for it. Note that for some apps like Wordpress you may need to edit the database to change the domain in the settings table. Quote
Krydos Posted 15 hours ago Posted 15 hours ago Go to https://heliohost.org/backup and enter your new live.com email address to download your backup from May 8th when the server was powered off. Quote
milano Posted 9 hours ago Author Posted 9 hours ago Thanks a lot, the most recent logs tell me about remaining daily users too.👍 These are on devices abandoned by their vendor 15 years ago, but popular among expats, and more recently, kids. Keeping the .org TLD might spare them the hassle of reflashing to a new server's address. Quote
wolstech Posted 4 hours ago Posted 4 hours ago Oh yeah, that domain could be an issue if changing it means having to update/replace the firmware on old embedded devices. I'll put it back for now for you as an alias so you have both. It could take up to 2 hours to work, and will show the same content as the .us domain. In the meantime, please update your service/documentation so that new users and updates going forward will access your service through the .us domain instead. There will eventually be a point where we eliminate the remaining .org domains from user accounts. 1 Quote
