So, what is the use of two name server?they simply take in URL requests made by client browsers and send back the IP address for the domain in the URL, your domain is on Stevie so the nameservers were telling your browser to go to216.218.192.170.Is it possible to have a back up server of Stevie?
That's really what big companies do, with the loads of moneybags they make from customers, not possible here. If we had a spare server we'd likely use it to split some services from Johnny and make Johnny pure JSP and have the new one deal with ASP/RoR services, or vice-versa. It'd be the best way to keep everything as stable as possible.
EDIT: For the record I'm not trying to shoot down your ideas or anything, you have great ideas that are business best practices really, but we're not a business, we simply don't have the budget to do things the 'right' way.

Ooh, I'll keep that in mind for when I get a job. Now that I've seen the button it's kinda hidden away, perhaps there should be a donate link in the navbar?

Is there any way to get unlimited web disc space?
Absolutely no way, from my understanding we barely make enough in ad revenue to cover the costs of colocation and utilities. We maybe make a little extra to save for 'rainy days' so we can't just foot the bill for a new server and the extra costs/month. With the amount of users there has to be a limit on the storage space per user, we got an increase in space when Johnny was bought last year because we had a whole empty server that could help ease the burden. More servers would mean more space per user, but never unlimited because as a nonprofit it simply can't be done without a lot of huge donations, which we don't even take.
Also I'd like to state what I consider the obvious; our admins who are here every single day trying to make sure we have our sites up and running with as little fuss as possible don't draw paychecks for all the time they put in, they're putting in the time because they care about the service being provided and believe in it. So when in the one day that service was completely down on Stevie to see a bunch of posts about how service -should- be better, could be better, and even about leaving as soon service was restored is disturbing for me to see, and I'm not even a staff member, if I were an admin reading those posts I'd feel deeply hurt.

But I want to ask you, I am using two name server right! One is ns1.heliohost.org and other is ns2.heliohost.org. So, if one goes down other one should give backup service. But yesterday, have you scan both of them parallel, so both has goes down?
No, the nameservers were both fully operational yesterday, they simply take in URL requests made by client browsers and send back the IP address for the domain in the URL, your domain is on Stevie so the nameservers were telling your browser to go to 216.218.192.170. However Stevie was offline and couldn't take requests so when your browser took that IP and tried forming connections with it the requests hit a dead end and timed out.

That's weird, guess the server reboot yesterday undid that fix too.. Though, why did you wait over a week after Krydos fixed this to park your domain?

Glad your problem got solved!
Please spare a few minutes to take our brief survey:

Your participation in this survey is greatly appreciated.

Oooh, thanks Byron! Hadn't looked in file_gets/puts_contents() yet but that's certainly more intuitive.

Try changing these settings. I don't use live mail but let me know if you need more help and i'll see about setting it up myself and let you know if i get it working.

Actually this idea died down pretty quick once I got loaded with tons of time consuming homework, however finals are over now and the work I didn't get to simply won't get done at this point so I should be able to get several banners completely drawn over break, next semester involves 17 credit hours so I can only assume that time will be an issue again.

It'll be removed for you before it's unsuspended.

It's not something you can fix yourself sorry, an admin has to change some settings around.

My /public_html is set to 750, try checking yours.

Oh, not this again.. On Stevie?
EDIT: @Krydos, seems the reboot undid the fix.

The server was down a couple hours after your unsuspension and again some time after that, you still have 4 minutes out of the 24 hrs, not sure if you'll get extra time since the server issues basically ate most of it.

Since I joined in August this is the only day it's been this bad. Any other time service was down it came back up relatively quickly.
-
Technical difficulties, when the admins find what's wrong there will be a news post.
-
Nope, something has been going on with it, but now both servers are down. Quite worrisome but I'm sure the admins are on top of it.
-
Hey Ice, can mods merge stuff or is that admin only? Oh, and Stevie's down again so admins are probably busy again.

Check your /public_html/error_log

On the IP issue, we get them from Hurricane Electric right, where do they register them from?

Could the next winner get some prizes like a domain name
or just some more space ...
A free domain name would obviously cost money and that's likely something HelioHost would not do.
However, I believe cPanel will permit me to add an increase for disk space; I will consider a more space award in the next competition. I'm thinking about 100MB extra space as a reward for 1st place...
Seems like an awesome incentive.

You can look around at new threads and see what you can do to help people. That's basically it, it's fun though. When I joined in ~August I was a total newb, I like to think I've learned a lot being in these forums.

Try clearing your cache, it's now fixed on my browser.
EDIT:Sorry I was a bit late on that, had to peck my screen a lot to make a new post.

Yes, you can list it as an Add-On domain under cPanel. If it says 0/0 available post that here as your account will need tweaking.
