  1. All accounts in Helio should be ads-free now. Wait until you activate your account and you will see no ads in it Quoted from HelioHost
  2. Redirecting doesn't really works... since that I always use tab in FF. Whenever I submitted a form, I'll jump to another tab and return to the tab after 10 seconds.
  3. That would treat them like kindergarten. I don't think people would like Helio since then.
  4. Well... everyone who broke the rules should be warned with a proper way. But most of them are like blinded.... or they lazy to read the rules before they signed up. I would suggest a process where they will require to pass through a few pages containing all the rules before they signed up.
  5. You register and wait for the confirmation email within 24 hours. Click to activate before you can use your account. There're guidelines to tell you what you supposed to do when you register.
  6. Whatever rewards to be given with posts, there's spam. We just need to find a best way to avoid most spams possible. As for bragging, I don't see there's a need to Helions. Just take a look at your total posts and rank, you can boast whatever you can.
  7. Well... for me that programming store worth a penny. At least I can have an easy source of programming, or maybe let us post some of our artwork in store, just like DeviantArt?
  8. Wows djbob... That's........ humiliating... Anyway, plan to force the user to browse through all guidelines before registering? At least, the simplest language and grammar rules?

    Board Version Upgraded

jjpriest, did you notice the changes after we migrated to Stevie? It's indeed loading faster now. But after board version upgraded, I don't really notice that since the difference is only split second.
  10. 2.5GB is rather hard to be used up by only you yourself. Even though it's just about uploading your root folder, it only cost once. After your bandwidth recovered the next month, try not to always access files and change it as FTP also counts in your bandwidth usage. Daily routine admin works on forum shouldn't cost much bandwidth.
  11. About the idea of pheoxer, why don't we make full use of the intellectual rights here? Most of us here have strong programming/server setup/OS background (like you all) and some of us here are still learning (like me) If you wish and don't mind, you can upload your compiled scripts/experience into the store (in return, djbob can give away Helions or others) while noobies can use Helions to get those knowledge. Isn't it great?
  12. Did you connect to your database by using mysql_connect() And also remember to use mysql_select_db() and other commands. This method is use with PHP.
  13. Alright. But I'm quite certain that this will be changed in the future since spamming is quite serious here. There's no point to waste your $$ to get domains for those spammers Unless the mods you've set up in the future really control the spam flood well.
  14. So far... within these 3 years, djbob keeps on improving and adding features but not removing any features. I've been with a couple of other free hosting services, what they did is putting on attracting features to get you in. After a short while, they removed some PHP functions, restricted extensions, or lower down your bandwidth/HD etc.. but what I've got here so far, is +++, not - - - Come on here and join this community, and you will know why we love it!

    Board Version Upgraded

I see our favicon really updated now... From orange-yellowish sun to something blue now...
  16. Is that means I'll just have to post another 400 more? but how would you determine whether my posts worthy or spam? Are you going to implement the karma system or just based on plainly 400 posts?
  17. Seriously, those suggestion aren't pointless, but not really practical though. A shoutbox would be best if all of the members use it wisely, which I don't think it will happen. It will only used for spams. While the chatroom, I don't think it's a good idea though, because if you noticed everytime you log in Helionet, at the bottom there, there's only <5 guests+members online, so what for we need a chatroom? Somemore if you're talking on support chatroom, you expected djbob sit there 24-7 to give advise in chatroom? Anyway, thanks for the idea

    150mb/250mb

If you noticed, after Stevie has been installed, djbob has increased our HDD from 150mb to 250mb. Pay more attention to this great hosting, thanks.
  19. What I mean unfair, is on the issue that I only posted 330 posts but I've got 15k Helions. Mathematically, I should have just 3.3k, but I've got 15k, that's unfair. (That's why I said put the blame on me.) Seriously, the karma was an interesting idea, but that would burden up the job of mods. If according to what Wizard suggested, I think we should separates into 2 kinds of mods. 1. To view all the posts, determine the quality posts and hence grants the karma. (Chief forum mod) 2. Check all the profiles everyday, and perform moderately tasks like all other mods does. (Chief and Vice forum mod) That would means, Chief mod will solely control the karma granting of forum under his power. While Vice mod will assist him to do other tasks together. Each forum should require 2 mod. (But do we have that much??)
  20. As you all can see, I got this amount of posts, but in my bank, I've got 15k Helions. For your all information, I've just get my domain from djbob, where I get those Helions?? From someone generous enough to pass me 5k Helions, and then I collect the rewarding interest until today. Seriously, it's unfair. (You all can put the blame on me, but I think I do am quite an active member right?) So, to avoid further problem(like my case) to occur in future, we should eliminate the interest system. But we do can keep the Helions, but without any transfer. That would ensure 5k Helions for a domain registration. It works the same with exactly 500 posts. (I believed this issue starts from How to collect interest automatically) which is rather ridiculous.)
  21. Ey, why do that? This forum is great for me and it absolutely worth you awhile to browse all the new posts of the day. You can get a lot of fresh knowledge here, from programming to science to interesting stuffs daily. There's no point for you to do that just to collect interest. Just bookmark it, and everyday when you surf the net, just click on the bookmark, and browse Helio!
  22. We live for ourselves, not for the God. For instance, Islam is my country has set some ridiculous law, note, it's legal law! 1. Avoid eating pork. 2. Pray 5 times everyday, earliest is at 0500++ 3. Compulsory to rush to mosque for praying at Friday 1300. 4. Compulsory to fast in their fasting month. Anyone who violates the rules above, will be prosecuted under legal law. What's in my mind was... this rules only makes our life inconvenient. We live only once in this world, why follow such many, unreasonable rules? p/s: No offense on above topics.

    PHP Mail

Alright, thanks for all the info given. I guess I'll need to get more info on SMTP, POP3 and those things related before I asked any question. *Now my yahoo mail is able to receive mail sent from heliohost, but not hotmail. But hotmail used to receive mails from heliohost. Nevermind, that doesn't matter.. thanks a lot. This topic is closed.

    PHP Mail

Oh... you mean just send it without displaying our server name "@stevie.heliohost.org" is it? I thought send it out using another SMTP server. Then I've asked a stupid question... *The mail is just send to me, I think the "From" sender doesn't really matters right?
