Hello, can I (and/or how do I) add my custom domain to my free

You should use ns1.heliohost.org and ns2.heliohost.org.

You can also use your own external DNS if preferred. If you go that route, you can use the IP addresses shown in Plesk to set up your DNS records. Please keep in mind that if you use external DNS, there are certain events such as server replacements and account moves that may cause downtime due to IP address changes, since we can only update DNS for domains that are using our name servers.

thanks. can you ensure directories are turned off so people cant go
to my folders like backend as at the moment they are exposed. i will
try and amend the htaccess file - thanks

Our Wiki is a great source of all kinds of information about the hosting service. It includes how-to tutorial guides, as well as information about common errors, such as 'Bad Gateway', which you can read more about here: https://wiki.helionet.org/502_Bad_Gateway     

Apache restarts happen every 2 hours on the shared hosting servers. During the restarts on the Tommy and Johnny servers, your site may display a 502 Bad Gateway error to visitors.     

Johnny is the free server, and as such it takes him the longest to restart sometimes. If the Bad Gateway errors are happening too often for your site, our best recommendation would be to upgrade your hosting account. You can view a table comparing the Average Restart Times of all of our servers on this page: https://wiki.helionet.org/502_Bad_Gateway#How_to_Get_Rid_of_502_Errors     

Another option would be that you could upgrade to a VPS Plan to stop seeing the Bad Gateway errors. On a VPS Plan there are no other users sharing the server with you, so Apache only restarts when you restart it yourself. You can leave it running without a restart for months if you want to. One of the ways you can help out and volunteer for HelioHost is by replying to emails that people write in if you know the answer to the question. The emails aren't public, but anyone in the community who has an account can help each other out with stuff like this. If only the current admin could see support requests we would never get any new people helping out, and we would never promote any new admins. Everyone here, including myself, started out as a normal user without any special access, and decided to give back to the community by answering simple questions and making the admins job easier so they can focus on adding new features, and more complex issues.
