  1. I get over 10,000 helions in interest a day (I don't usually collect interest much anymore). I personally think that djbob should get rid of the interest. Though I don't post 25 times a month, I still visit the forum every day, view new threads, and contribute in threads in which I think are worthy. Shoot, if you get a descent site up (and running correctly) and I think it is a good idea, I'll give you some helions to get a domain name or whatever you need. Just don't' go spamming the forums. Joe
  2. My opinion is pretty much the oppisite. I don't see any sense in wasting my time re-writing some code whcih I could get for free. I love the boost libraries and I have recnetly been using ogre3d for 3d game development because I got sick of writing custom map loaders and having to worry about which format the textures are in because I would have to write another library to import .png or .jpg or .*. I have never used ruby, but I am a fan of python when it comes to scripting langauges. I plan on encorporating it into my next game. Joe
  3. Debian seperates it's packages to save space. You don't want the source code for every program, or every program to run in debug mode. However many other distros (such as ubuntu) use the debian package system because it is so good. If there isn't a debian package in the regular repositories then you can find it in custom ones. I like arch linux and I used to run it as well. I have rescently switched my other computer to kfreebsd (debian on the BSD kernel). BTW Many people don't know what Ubuntu means, and I feel that I should enlighten you. It's and anceint african word which means to stupid to set up Debian (not that debian is hard to set up). Joe
  4. I dual-boot debian and xp. I like what both operating systems have to offer, but if I'm not playing a game I'm on debian (Usually making one). I have tried a plethora of linux distros as well, but debian is my favorite. I didn't have trouble installing any of the distros. In fact I tried about ten distros in two days (installed each next to windows). People say that linux is hard, however installing it is about as simple as installing a program on windows I think the main things to keep in mind when choosing a distro are the community, the packages available for it (debian has the most packages out of any distro), and the stability you want. I don't mind running into a few problems so I run a testing/unstable mix of debian. I highly suggest getting linux. Joe
  5. If you want to get the vista look for free google Vixta. Though I havn't used vista yet, I don't see anything wrong with it (except bad default settings). I don't need transparent windows and pseudo bubbles and flowers (I don't see how it helps me). I dualboot debian and xp. I like my set up just fine. Joe

Wow, that looks very nice. If you do install python, may I request that you install django as well. (I'm thinking of using it later down the road). Again, I like the new site. Joe
  7. No, you can't host accounts for other people. You can put anything in the www folder so that your contents are visible to others (ie your web pages). You can change file permissions, create email accounts, cron jobs, etc. You can't edit the server os configuration or overall server settings though. Joe
  8. I consider it wrong to push religion on another person, such as they do in Africa where the missionaries give the Africans food. They don't give all the Africans food, just the ones that live in the church community (ie the Christians). It is that type of persuasion which makes me frown upon religion. I think it is ok to speak of your religion though (it doesn't mean that I'm going to listen). If someone comes to me about a current issue and I think that their stance is correct, then I will further discuss the matter with them. However, if their point seems to be absurd (ie they are Hitler supporters), I still think they should be able to speak their mind, I will just frown upon them (and probably think less of them). I think it is everyone's right to speak their mind no matter what they are thinking. I only think it is wrong when the physically (or psychologically) impose it on another person.

Are you going to transfer the forum onto the new server? If so can you go ahead and get the forum in tact first? Joe

Are you making an entirely new forum, or are you just going to re-arrange this one?
  11. I use iceweasel on debian, it is open source. Firefox Iceweasel Fork
  12. You can give support and get comments by leaving an email address which people can contact you for. The point of the page is how to make a good productive site (not a personal site). ie, when your adding documentation on-line about your software, it would be very distracting to have flash on every page (not to mention the lag). I think that a FAQ would help new users. I made a rough one with basic questions I see a lot. I'm sure it has a plethora of grammatical errors (I was in a rush, sorry). I think this would be a good start though. I know you have a help portal, but people are more familiar with faqs on forums. Joe F.A.Q. Where do I sign up for hosting? This depends on which kind of hosting account you wish to obtain. There are three major types of hosting accounts in which you can consider. Look below for the three different kinds of hosting plans Ad based hosting Ad based hosting allows you to get free web hosting with 150mb of space and 1.5gb of bandwidth by agreeing to maintain a ad banner on your website. You may chose to have this placed automatically for you, or you can place it manually if needed. You can sign up for ad based hosting here. Posting based hosting Posting based hosting allows you to collaboratively post on the helionet forums to help others in the community in exchange for hosting. There are two posting plans in which you can use, the posting standard plan (which requires you to contribute 25 quality posts a month). The posting standard plan will give you 150mb of space, and 1.5gb of bandwidth. There is also the Posting Plus plan (which requires you to make 100 quality posts a month, roughly 3 quality posts a day). The Posting Plus package gives you 250mb of webspace, and 2.5gb of bandwidth. You can acquire either plans by signing up in the forums, then going to the store and buying the plan which corresponds with the amount of quality posts you have made. NOTE: You must must sign up for hosting first. When you buy the hosting item, click signup rather than renew. Can I use my domain I got from helionet on another server? No What domains are available to get on helionet? .com .net or .org are available How do I get a domain name You must acquire a total of 500 quality posts a year (roughly 1-2 posts a day). After you have done this you can obtain further instructions here. When I go to renew my hosting account it says that <mynamehere> isn't a valid account holder You must use the username you signed up the hosting account with, not your forum username. I got an email saying my hosting services are about to be canceled. This could a few different reasons. It could be because you have not visited the cpanel within a three month period. It could also be that you need to renew your monthly posting plan. If neither of these are the case, and you get a notice on your site, please then contact someone on the forum. I have lost helions, or have an incorrect amount of helions corresponding to the amount of my posts. This could because you have spammed the forums and you have been fined. If you continue to spam, you may be banned. Heliohost has been unreliable, and has not had a 100% up-time, I demand a refund! You payed $0.0 for your posting, so you will get the refund of $0.0 Can I have multiple accounts? No you can't. If you are caught, and you will be, you will get banned. Can I host illegal content, adult material, or scripts which may be used in illegal purposes? No Do I own my domain name that I receive from helionet? In the legal sense no, but as long as you are a quality user and abide by the rules, you can count on keeping it. May I have subdomains You may make as many subdomains as you want (note you only get one subdomain from heliohost ie yoursubdomain.heliohost.org) So and so is sending me advertisements or spaming me via private messaging Please forward the pm to a moderator or administrator. This is if you wish to keep the interest, and this is a little confusing. How do I collect interest You must deposit your helions in the bank. You can then collect your interest after 3:00 p.m. (0 GMT) the next day (depending on daylight savings time). After you collect interest, you can not collect interest until 3:00 p.m. (0 GMT) the next day. If you make a deposit in a period of time in which you can collect interest, it will void your interest for the day. Therefore you should collect your interest before you make deposits.

I would be much more impressed if you started cleaning up the forum first. You could go ahead and take down the comedy & art and entertainment forum, and reduce the philosophy and debate forum into just one sub-forum (or get rid of it all together as well). I would like to see the forums more based around computers (as that would attract people who are here for purposes other than spamming). Movies and Comedy forums just scream spam. Joe

That's great, I'm glad that your going to fix helionet up! I suggest that you make a user-user forum where questions are directed to the forum as a whole to answer, rather than just you. (Instead of contact helionet/costumer service). People would be encouraged to help others, as they would no longer be able to get their helions from posting whether or not they liked a movie.
  17. Frankie, I'll make an sdl and opengl tutorials (when I get around to it) because I already know those. I'll make an assembly tutorial as well (as it's a hard thing to learn) but that will have to hold off a while as I'm not to good at it as well. Thanks for the suggestions guys, Joe
  18. It's not that it can't be weighed, it's just that we have nothing to compare it to. It's like trying to measure the solar system in millimeters. Light is energy which is carried by a proton as a median. Therefore it doesn't need other matter as a median (like sound and heat). Since light is (somewhat) made up of matter, it definitely has mass. It's simply that we can't measure the mass. In fact the Earth's gravity effects the light that passes closely to it.
  19. Catholics have never believed in any sort of birth control/barriers. I was surprised by the "polluting the environment" part, as usually religious folk don't care about the environment (they say their god will destroy the Earth soon anyways).
  20. I deleted the script, but I found a nice php api, so I think I will stick with php instead of python. Thanks anywyas Joe
  21. It gave me an internal server error.
  22. My site is basically going to be video tutorials ( have started on the tutorials, but my site isn't up as I decided to start over). Anyways I need some ideas for some more tutorials to make, the more tutorials for users to watch, the better. What do would you guys like to see a video tutorial of?
  23. Do your servers have python enabled? I love to program in python, and I think it would be great if I could make a site in python! If they don't I'll give you like a hundred thousand helions to install python + django Joe
  24. For some reason every time I come to log into helionet, it doesn't work. It goes to the "thank you for logging in" re-direct page, and it redirects me to the index where it tells me I'm not logged in. I basically had to log in five times to make this post. Is this happening to anyone else? I remember it happened to me and a few people a few months back one time, but I havn't had any problems since. Joe EDIT: Booted up in linux and it worked just fine
  25. What if the universe creates and destroys itself (more so combines and decomposes) eternally and that has always been.
