Admin: How to change the title of this topic to [RESOLVED]

Hi guys (Resolved) Just to share my experience on how to upgrade to Jm3.8 from Jm3.7.5 ; this is not possible from Jm BackEnd at HelioHost which is the start of this thread. (After this experience I still think HH server has some folders that does not provide for this.) On asking at the start of this thread, Krydos point me to Softaculous which HelioHost paid for the linkage. To get to this feature you need to access your cpanel using this https://docs.joomla....xisting_version My mission is to update my already installed jm3.7.5 keeping all its extensions. This is called "Import", not "Installation" (latter a totally fresh installation) For this "import" In the Softaculous interface when you log in using index.live.php, after the "import" click, your domain name is shown, then just click the "Import". Once done, your website is registered in Softa.. system. Thereafter Softa.. will tell you you need an Jm update, just follow its instruction, you can also do the backup at the same time. Make sure the 100% is completed. Friends I found the "Import" method in Softaculous login and is working to set up my website details in their server. Once done i presume all the problems of upgrading to Jm3.8 is resolved. Let you guys know when done.

Root Admin i have followed that method in my past upgrade of Joomla, it certainly works. But from v3.8 onwards we can't over ride the old files and try to fix the database plus 2nd step. I have tried on my localhost, if we use this old way the whole site stop. I am actually following Jm new instructions & is able to duplicate their instructions in my other web site and in the localhost. At Joomla BackEnd, the update went to extent of proceeding to use the uploaed 3.8-update.zip from Jm but resulting error: "Could not open archive part file home/f..mic/public_html/tmp/jus6N4eFA for reading. Check that the file exits, is readable by the web server & is not in a directoyr made out of reach chroot, open_basedir restrictions or any other restriction pu in place by your host." Is there a way to solve this from the above angle? I am using the "Upload & Update" dialog of Jm backend to try this. There is already a prewarning of "php temporary folder not set" Hope someone can move this.

Appreciate your help as it do take time to fit into the world full of changes. I will see what other way i can do this update. Or if i can further understand what softa... did during an installation or how i can register my existing public_html for it to manage. Peace PS On further thought & checking: As i can update at localhost or other website, i will still want to try to do it a HelioHost dropping the idea of using Softa..,this is a more direct way. If i can do it, i will certainly share, meanwhile if anyone has anything to help, appreciate you drop a line.

Too many to try. My main concern now is how does Soft.. know my change of folder? I would think that a easier way is do the update in my localhost and then upload. By this method, again does Soft.. still manage the old folder? I tried update at the old joomla backup, the status is the same at the beginning of this thread. Or another way, how can i get Soft... to manage my old public_html To get Soft.. to manage the old p-h, i tried editing details of installation details in Soft.. but was rejected.

Friend i still think it will not work because of the extensions. Please advice. One more way i think it may work is just to move from all the new joomla to override the old one with renaming or moving. Softaculous manage the old folder???

Ok friend still need some final help Since i have install the updated new 3.8 in public_html\joomla30, following is what i would think i should do 1 I rename public_html as as p_h_old (can i do it at cpanel?) 2 then move joomla30 to the root and rename it as public_hmtl (can i do it?) 3 the new public_hmtl/configuration.php is from the p_h_old Is the above ok, please? I think won't work as all my extension installed in old p_h_old will not be in the new public_html

I did what you just wrote. Because of fear of disturbing the the public_html i install joomla 3.7.5 (that is the current version available in softaculous), i install it in a folder jooma30 within public_html. Then when i log in the backend of this new instance of joomla, it offers to upgrade to new version 3.8; i did the upgrade, it went smoothly as you recommended rightly. Still i still got it wrong. I can't see the whole picture so is still in a deadend. Pardon my dumbness. I don't see the button you mentioned in my cpanel. On reviewing what happened behind the screen, i should have install into public_html itself and allow take up the mysql data in the my configuration.php. Right?

Thank you friend for leading me into another new thing, softaculous that i never know before. Using your link i have registered with them and can get to my cpanel with them. I also always allow it to access my site with you .. but ..i can't seem to go further inspite of google to read up. so here am i at your door. In heliohost cpanel, at joomla backend or softaculous cpanel i don't see the appearance of anything to tell me that i have a new version of Joomla to update, please give me a light. Cheers.

Hello Krydos, as suggested, i can extract the zip into the tmp; so it is not a question of rights, i guese. At Joomla backup i tried to update Jm directly from the folder ie contents of the extracted files in home/fuzmic/public_html/tmp but it says Path does not have a valid package. Unable to find install package I think the way to use the extracted files in Jm update is by overriding the existing files using the extract. I have tried this many times in the older version but this time it don't work. I have to update from url What is your advice? I don't face this response in my other 3 website. i can also update the same website at the localhost.

Hi gurus At backend of Joomla, i tried up from jm3.7.5 using both methods (direct or upload the Jm update zip file) but failed In both case it says can't OPEN Joomla_3.8.0-Stable-Update_Package.zip in public_html/tmp folder. I tried placing the file there too with rights 0755 but result still can't read. Where did i go wrong?

We have good supporting roots at this organisation, i felt it on the first day of encounter with KryDos. In fact all the interface with the org, the respond time & "no beating around the bush" exchanges is far superior to many paying host. Only a little down side, sometimes there is waiting, is this due to availability of ports or tracert issue from Malaysia or Australia. Tracerting to the server is quite good from Australia, no failures. (See attached) According to my updownRobot monitor, which was hours after the outrage was noted, is about 4 hours from the time i noted the issue. I am still happy with the turn out of things because i am learning heaps from the clear response in this topic & my response to it. Keep up the good work. Peace2U.

Sorry i just remember my encounter with KryDos - RootAdin on chat & on topic issue at the very start of using this org site. I am sure we are in very safe hands of KryDos.

Hi admin friends i try to update extensions stated by the Joomla back end as revised but i can't, i get following message JFolder::create: Could not create folder.Path: /public_html Update path does not exist. I check in the Jm Global setting, temporary path is /public_html/tmp This folder exist in the website with 0755 rights So please help, where did it go wrong PS: Just correct the path of tmp with home directory path, then .. of course can install, my lack of knowledge. Hi Admin guys Need your help. When i try to browse peace2u.heliohost.org i get the following after successful upload of files & database. Error displaying the error page: The cachelite Cache Storage is not supported on this platform.: The cachelite Cache Storage is not supported on this platform. I try to access the Joomla backend gave the same error. Can i delete the all the cache from file Manager. Please teach. THANK YOU. Ok guys i found the fix at configuration.php use 'file' cache_handler.

From where do i delete it.Then log in to http://heliohost.org/tommy/ to start a new account is above what you mean?
