You really shouldn't have to specify any of that stuff to get SMF able to email your users. It just needs to use PHP's mail() function, which is working fine. What exactly is this function supposed to do? If it's just supposed to email users, I would suggest you contact the SMF folks and ask them how to get email working with just PHP's mail() function.

FrontPage will work fine with HelioHost.

Are you going to get a free certificate? If so, you ought to know that most major browsers (IE, Firefox, Chrome) are going to recommend their users to stay away from your site, as your certificate will not be signed by a trusted root. Usually, they'll either display a warning or color the address bar red. Go here for an example.
