maicol07 Posted November 14, 2020 Posted November 14, 2020 Hi,After a test with mail tester I have the following result:(Check attachments)Searching online, I've found out the provider needs to set the rdns record.Could you do it?Thanks
wolstech Posted November 14, 2020 Posted November 14, 2020 Yeah, Krydos needs to set that. What is the domain name that the IP should resolve to?
maicol07 Posted November 14, 2020 Author Posted November 14, 2020 Yeah, Krydos needs to set that. What is the domain name that the IP should resolve to?Well, I have two domains, each of them has some email addresses. Which of the two is correct to be resolved from the IP?
Krydos Posted November 14, 2020 Posted November 14, 2020 Reverse DNS can only be set up for one domain and one IP. The idea is to be able to lookup the domain using the IP. If you want to have reverse DNS work for both domains you would need to buy an additional IPv4 which we can provide for $1.50 per month.
maicol07 Posted November 14, 2020 Author Posted November 14, 2020 Ah ok. For now, set up the reverse DNS only for battistini-impianti.it.If you need the mail server subdomain it's mail.battistini-impianti.it
Krydos Posted November 14, 2020 Posted November 14, 2020 I've got my end of this reverse DNS set up. I sent a request to our ISP and we're just waiting on them to get their part set up now.
Krydos Posted November 15, 2020 Posted November 15, 2020 It apparently takes a long time for our isp to update their dns records, but they finally delegated reverse dns control to me for your ip. Here you go: # dig +noall +answer -x 64.71.153.4 4.153.71.64.in-addr.arpa. 85960 IN CNAME 4.0-15.153.71.64.in-addr.arpa. 4.0-15.153.71.64.in-addr.arpa. 14400 IN PTR battistini-impianti.it. Let me know if the mail tester still complains about reverse dns. I wasn't sure which domain you needed set for your mail setup so I just picked one. It's easy to change though.
Krydos Posted November 15, 2020 Posted November 15, 2020 So, I requested DeGroot delegation, and they set it up with RFC2317 delegation by mistake. Either one works, but all of our other ip blocks are set up with DeGroot so I wanted to keep everything the same and organized. When I pointed out the mistake they apologized and are now changing the delegation style to DeGroot for me so the reverse dns might stop working when their system updates. Just a heads up in case it works for a while and then stops again.
maicol07 Posted November 15, 2020 Author Posted November 15, 2020 Mail tester reports the same rDNS error. I think it's the mail server one
Krydos Posted November 16, 2020 Posted November 16, 2020 Try it now # dig +noall +answer -x 64.71.153.4 4.153.71.64.in-addr.arpa. 71188 IN CNAME 4.0-15.153.71.64.in-addr.arpa. 4.0-15.153.71.64.in-addr.arpa. 14400 IN PTR mail.battistini-impianti.it.
Krydos Posted November 16, 2020 Posted November 16, 2020 Cool. It looks like our isp is still using RFC2317 and it will probably switch over to DeGroot sometime tonight or tomorrow morning. We'll need to remember to check it again after it changes to make sure it's still working.
maicol07 Posted November 18, 2020 Author Posted November 18, 2020 @Krydos it seems that Mail Tester is not fully satisfied (see attachment)Maybe changing the rDNS hostname to maicol07.it solves the multiple domain issue...
Krydos Posted November 18, 2020 Posted November 18, 2020 There you go # dig +noall +answer -x 64.71.153.4 4.153.71.64.in-addr.arpa. 86400 IN CNAME 4.subnet0.153.71.64.in-addr.arpa. 4.subnet0.153.71.64.in-addr.arpa. 14400 IN PTR maicol07.it.
