paladox2014 Posted June 13, 2014 Posted June 13, 2014 hi please could you enable popen because mediawiki now requires this be enabled to work correctly. and I doint think it is a security risk. http://www.php.net/manual/en/function.popen.php
Byron Posted June 13, 2014 Posted June 13, 2014 This support request is being escalated to our root admin.
paladox2014 Posted June 15, 2014 Author Posted June 15, 2014 Thanks. Mediawiki are investigating the issue because it was introduced in 1.22 but something changed in 1.23 to cause the issue. there are many discussions on mediawiki about the issue.
Krydos Posted June 17, 2014 Posted June 17, 2014 popen() is disabled for security reasons. Can you post a link to where mediawiki requires this command? I find it surprising that a wiki needs to be able to execute shell commands. 1
wolstech Posted June 17, 2014 Posted June 17, 2014 It's apparently using popen for file uploads and management. http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Project:Support_desk#Cannot_upload_files_since_the_update_from_1.22.7_to_1.23._43983 It may or may not be a bug...
yashrs Posted June 17, 2014 Posted June 17, 2014 @Paladox2014, stay at 1.22 just now, enabling popen could be very dangerous. Mediawiki will fix this in some time.
paladox2014 Posted June 17, 2014 Author Posted June 17, 2014 hi link is here but this is just a tread reporting the issue https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Thread:Project:Support_desk/Cannot_upload_files_since_the_update_from_1.22.7_to_1.23. Mediawiki says that popen was introduced in 1.22 but someone changed it and has now caused the problem.
