    Happy Holidays

    Happy Holidays from HelioHost!
  2. Strange, maybe his account is corrupt somehow. Have you tried creating a new database?
  3. I think something is misconfigured on your end. Try renaming your .htaccess and seeing what happens.
  4. Pasarel, what were you running on your site?
  5. xaav already did it. Does your Softaculous install work now?
  6. Is this a trend? Yes. Maybe there is a problem with cPanel. Ticket? Or should we poke djbob?
  7. ...I'm not even going to bother. User is banned for trolling. For reference, http://www.heliohost.org/h-terms.html (See the last two points) http://www.cl58servi...iohost/faq.html (See first point)
  8. Is this a trend?
  9. I'm going to assume it has something to do with the 20+ databases that used all the resources of our server, violating our Terms of Service. It could also have something to do with trying to run spam sites with our services. Also... What does this have to do with anything? We've always been a community. A ticketing system is unfeasible given our staff of volunteers. No one has controlled you. What? We warned you at at the beginning to keep backups. It is not our fault that you failed to read/heed our Terms of Service. No one can help you if you do not speak up. HelioHost is a not-for-profit organization that has been running for over five years. I don't think we're scamming anyone. Maybe you also should find better things to do with your time besides ranting. Again, this is a volunteer effort for a organization that provides a free service. We do this in our spare time. I agree. You shouldn't judge people that you don't know. We have been professional with you. We also bathe regularly. I attend the University of California, Berkeley. I have worked at Amazon and am working at Google next summer. What have you done lately? This is your first and final warning. If you continue being disruptive, you will be banned and your hosting account removed.
  10. I don't think any of us have the specs memorized. If you search around, you can find them in old admin posts, though.
  11. Yes your stuff is preserved when you switch themes. Remember my previous posts trying to explain how themes work. The theme is overlaid over your content. Have you read this? http://codex.wordpress.org/WordPress_Quick_Start_Guide We only close posts in Customer Service.
  12. To answer the original question, in terms of funds, we're doing fine. Since we aren't doing this for profit, there's no reason to implement changes that would possibly up ad revenue.
  13. Would that be moral to do?
  14. We don't know right now. However, in recent times, Stevie has been relatively stable. Assuming we can fix whatever is wrong right now, Stevie will probably perform as before.
  15. Right now, I work on a Thinkpad T410 running Fedora 16. First gen i5, 4GB RAM, 320GB HDD. Don't remember the rest.

    Extended Downtime

We've already rebooted the server. Didn't work. We did get into contact with djbob. Last I checked, he's working on it. In the event of something becoming completely FUBAR, we'll do our best to recover your data, but don't cry and yell at us if we can't. TOS told you up front that we're not responsible for data loss.

    Extended Downtime

@xaav: Did we bump djbob? @Pasarel: We don't have any resources like that. Sorry.
  18. No. Our servers are for web hosting. Go rent a VPS.
  19. You misunderstand. Instead of using the WP dashboard to select some pre-configured options, you can customize the template and styles of the theme to suit your tastes. Those files are the ones you should edit with notepad.
  20. AFAIK, It's just php on top of SQL. Why not just edit the theme instead?
  21. Themes are sandboxed into a set of files that are dynamically overlaid on the content. In other words, you shouldn't be editing any php files in the main wordpress directory. http://codex.wordpress.org/Theme_Development http://codex.wordpress.org/Editing_Files
  22. Don't spread FUD. http://techcrunch.com/2011/10/28/linux-foundation-canonical-and-red-hat-weigh-in-on-secure-boot/
  23. Post count is not an explicit requirement. You can become an moderator or administrator whenever. It just so happens that the people who have stuck around for a long time have been appointed moderators or administrators. This isn't a glamorous job, so the best way to find out if you'd like it is to start answering questions/support posts with meaningful information (which you can learn by poking around HelioHost/Net), just like what I'm doing now. That's also the best way to become a candidate for the next mod/admin position. However, while it's true that more hands make less work, a bloated staff is worse than a slower response time. So there's no guarantee that you will get promoted, even if you show due dedication and expertise, since there's no guarantee that we'll have the need for another person on staff.
  24. IIRC, we just restart apache in the dead of night, not the entire server.
