Krydos Posted October 14, 2023 Share Posted October 14, 2023 We're based in the US so the main law that affects the answer to this question is the Children's Online Privacy Protection Rule (COPPA) https://www.ftc.gov/legal-library/browse/rules/childrens-online-privacy-protection-rule-coppa so if you're under 13 and we find out what your age is somehow we would need to get your parent or guardian's permission to collect private information, such as an email address, from you. Krydos Posted October 16, 2023 Share Posted October 16, 2023 Let the user's parent or guardian know that they are using our service, and then the parent or guardian can contact us to let us know that they don't want their child using our services. wolstech Posted October 18, 2023 Share Posted October 18, 2023 They can be underage if their parent is OK with it, or if they reside outside of the USA where COPPA does not apply (though a similar law may exist in their country). Many services do prohibit users under 13 specifically to avoid dealing with this, but our TOS does not for the moment (it probably should...). It does apply though to US under-13s though because its (extremely broad) definition includes an email address as PII, probably because it was written back in the day when email was somewhat new on the scene and they were usually linked to a person's identity...
