VPS number: 87, VPS ID: 486

My VOS server keeps going offline -- from 8:37pm - 10:27 pm CDT and for
about 45 minutes before that. I don't see any notifications of outages or
scheduled maintenance.

It has now been offline for 5+ hours, with no outages or maintenance posted
on your site. Please update me on the status.

There is only one person (Krydos) who can support the VPS service due to its specialized nature (as opposed to shared hosting which has many admins). He will investigate when he sees this. We used to have a second person but they have not been around in a while.

Please keep in mind that because all of us are volunteers and VPS is a separate specialty from our much larger and more popular shared hosting offerings, VPS support can take 24 hours or longer as a result.

In some cases you may receive faster support via Discord for VPS issues.

Yeah, it's locked up 4 or 5 times over the last couple days. I keep power cycling it, but you clearly have some software issue that is crashing it. You'll need to check the logs and fix it. Let us know if you need any help with that.

I am sick of rebooting your VPS so I logged in and checked the logs

Of course it's going to go unresponsive if you enabled sleep...

Well, first, Thank You for restarting the VPS and I'm sorry that it was
necessary to do so several times. Of course, since no one ever told me
when it was restarted or provided any updates, I wasn't able to log in
myself to check on what the problem was. So, thanks for doing that as
well. Of course I didn't intentionally enable sleep mode. That was
probably set up as part of the desktop X setup power savings default.

I have disabled sleep mode on the VPS.

I'm sure it is difficult being the only person to manage the VPS servers.
Have you considered adding more volunteers to help with that? You could,
at least, deploy some self-service options for VPS customers to be able to
check the status, reboot, etc. once logged in to your site. By not having
any self-admin functions, then of course you are going to get hit up with
requests all the time.

Thanks again for your help. Let me know if there is anything I can do to
assist.

8 minutes after a reboot your VPS has 83 MB free memory, 1.7 GB swapped, and 30+ load. You need about 8 GB more memory than you have currently to run all this stuff. You can either upgrade your memory, uninstall a lot of this stuff, or request your free rebuild to start over. You can see your upgrade options at https://heliohost.org/dashboard/upgrade/ You get 1 free rebuild per month if you want to start over with a fresh OS. If your VPS keeps locking up and causing such high load I'll need to just power it off until you're ready to fix it.

So it looks like you're trying to run Modoboa mail server, which requires 2 GB of memory https://modoboa.readthedocs.io/en/latest/installation.html and also Gnome desktop which requires 8 GB of memory so you should probably upgrade to at least 10 GB of memory. Desktops on a VPS rarely work very well though so I think it's a huge mistake so you'd probably be better off upgrading to 2 GB memory for the mail server and doing a free rebuild to remove all the desktop nonsense.
