Price for the VPS itself is the same as for Linux ones of the same specs, since we do not provide a license for Windows. It comes with the 120 day trial installed.

You are responsible for properly licensing it after that time. Windows Server 2019 (Standard, which is the minimum license that can legally be used in a VPS scenario) is around $800 from most legitimate sources last I checked…to my knowledge only one person has ever took us up on a windows VPS.

I set up a Windows Server 2016 for a guy, and I think he found a license for around $30 since it's such an old operating system. It seemed like a pretty sketchy website that sold it to him, and I definitely wouldn't have given them any money personally, but I haven't heard back from him yet so I guess it was a real license. I don't think there are any legitimate discount sites for WS 2019.

Also the evaluation period for WS 2016 and WS 2019 is 180 days not 120. After the evaluation period ends your VPS just powers itself off automatically every hour or so. I suppose you could back up everything, install a new evaluation, restore your backups, and get another 180 days. It would be kind of hassle though.

The other thing to keep in mind is Windows Server takes a LOT more memory than Linux, so to get the same website performance as a 1 GB memory Linux VPS you would need a 4 GB memory Windows VPS like the Earth plan you mentioned. Windows Server also tends to read and write from the disk a lot more than Linux so that slows it down too.

All of that said though, you're welcome to take it for a spin, and if you don't like it for any reason we can switch you to Linux for free or figure something else out. To answer your question directly, a Windows Server 2019 180 day evaluation Earth VPS would be $15 per month for 4 GB memory, 4 CPUs, and 200 GB storage.
