For about the last 2 weeks, windows has been trying to force constant updates on my Lenovo laptop.

It starts with a pop saying a restart is needed. When You restart or shutdown , it says its installing an update (or something to that effect).

It then restarts (or waits till you restart the laptop) and then does more installing.

Then after it is finished...the computer is normal for awhile, then it wants to restart again.

How do I block this nonsense ?

Thanks.

Is it the same update failing repeatedly, or is it catching up on installing updates? The update settings have an option for update history that will tell you what it's been up to.

As for receiving tons of updates...that's pretty normal for Windows 10 unfortunately. If you have Pro, you can use gpedit to turn off the automatic updates (or at least remove the restart nags so it only does them when you decide to shut down). If you have Home, your only choice is to completely kill WU by disabling it's service.

Asking to restart for an update is nice of it. My Windows 10 computers like to restart themselves without warning when I'm not looking, which closes any open programs without saving them. I've lost quite a bit of work that way since I started using Windows 10. Never happened on older versions of Windows.

That's very relatable and it is very annoying when that happens...
