I understand what you are saying about the server not having a physical screen, speakers, etc., but thats why they are virtualized -- sometimes it is much easier to do certain tasks from a windows gui desktop. Thanks for your assistance, I think I have the memory better managed. I made a small donation via PayPal for the inconvenience and a small way to say thank you. -Daniel On Mon, Sep 18, 2023 at 7:22?PM HelioHost Support wrote: > Your VPS has been upgraded to 2 GB memory. I requested and paid for the memory upgrade. Please let me know when you restart the server and I will log in and fix it. Thanks! VPS number: 87, VPS ID: 486 I?m sorry, I didn?t realize I would have to rationalize my testing with everyone. Yes, I do have Gnome ?nonsense? installed for the rare instance when I need a desktop to connect to a web service locally. A text based browser rarely gives the same functionality. I use xrdp and the service is normally stopped, so the memory usage shouldn?t be related to that. Yes, I did install Modoboa as a friend of mine is one of the developers and asked me to test a reported hidden issue with the installer. Which I did, and the issue does pose a problem. If you could let me know when you restart the sever, then I would be able to log in and stop services before there is an issue. Yes, I agree it makes sense to increase memory to 2GB, at least. Can I do that myself, or do I submit a ticket to have that done? On Monday, September 18, 2023, HelioHost Support wrote: > So it looks like you're trying to run Modoboa mail server, which requires > 2 GB of memory https://modoboa.readthedocs.io/en/latest/installation.html and > also Gnome desktop which requires 8 GB of memory so you should probably > upgrade to at least 10 GB of memory. Well, first, Thank You for restarting the VPS and I'm sorry that it was necessary to do so several times. Of course, since no one ever told me when it was restarted or provided any updates, I wasn't able to log in myself to check on what the problem was. So, thanks for doing that as well. Of course I didn't intentionally enable sleep mode. That was probably set up as part of the desktop X setup power savings default. I have disabled sleep mode on the VPS. I'm sure it is difficult being the only person to manage the VPS servers. Have you considered adding more volunteers to help with that? You could, at least, deploy some self-service options for VPS customers to be able to check the status, reboot, etc. once logged in to your site. By not having any self-admin functions, then of course you are going to get hit up with requests all the time. Thanks again for your help. Let me know if there is anything I can do to assist. Right after creating this ticket, I received the automated email with links to the ticket system and forum. After trying to log in with the password I believe I gave at signup, and several other possibilities, I reset the forum password by email. I am sorry that I am unable to locate the password I originally used. I vaguely recall that your systems require an unusually long or complex password ? but I could be mistaken, I interact with many services all day. If the requirements are unusual, I may have been forced to use a password that is different than my usual pattern, and more difficult to recall. Had I known that changing it was a major ordeal, I would have made certain to document it better. I am used to simply resetting any password I forget. I know many, if not all, are volunteers so I apologize for taking more of your time, but *could someone please change my password*? I am curious, as most companies are implementing industry best practices and remove any human involvement in the password management process (other than the account owner), and with many options available to allow password reset by end users (while maintaining account security), why do you require an admin to change passwords manually? And does this not result in significantly reduced security, as well as adding delay and frustration to end users that are unable to access their account until an admin processes their change request? Thanks, in advance, for resetting my password. I look forward to finally being able to access the system.
