    Extended Downtime

Total speculation here but from what I have been reading, it seems that they have not been able to get in touch with djbob. Wouldn't it be something if this whole time he was just taking a Thanksgiving holiday and the server just needed to be rebooted. If the problem is anything more serious than a reboot then I would say there is a distinct possibility of corrupt data.

    Extended Downtime

From what I have seen the admins post in previous threads, they do not make backups for individuals.
  3. I see a lot of users are from many cool parts of the world. That's great. I hope to get to know some of you and learn about your cultures as well as share thoughts on computer technology. I use the sn Xwinuser from when I was a diehard Linux fan (2001 - ). I am a moderate Linux fan now. It has its place but I for my main OS I have switched back to the dark side, Windows of course. X Windows + Ex Windows 98 user = Xwinuser I have 15 years computer related work experience from ISP Call Center Support to Systems Admin to Freelance (my own business) network consultant. I am CompTIA A+ Certified. I have an Associates Degree in Electronics from when 486 (thats the CPU model not the speed. lol) computers were the standard. I am currently working towards my Bachelors in Information Technology - Networking. I have been a trainer at a few work places and have also taught a CompTIA A+ boot camp type class for one company. I like to share the things I learn and also learn from others.
  4. Have tried Opera, Netscape/Mozilla/Firefox, Chrome, IE and some others I cannot remember. Most sites are built for the big two FF and IE with slightly more being written for IE. Oh I guess there is also the MAC browser...Safari? I have abandoned all the fringe browsers and have gone back to IE as my main. I am not sticking with something just because it is sticking it to the man or is cool with the techie guys. Lately (and you can read about this on their website) FireFox has become a memory hog and has a larger foot print than even IE. Having a small footprint was one of the major features of FF, without that its just another wanna be. The FF site does say they are trying to fix the problem in the next release. We'll see. All the other Java based browsers may be fast but they lack in site compatibility, features and user friendliness.
  5. Windows 8 for PCs is only out in Dev Preview. How do you know you don't like it? YouTube videos? Just don't like Microsoft stuffs? http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/home/br229518
  6. You do not have to be as long winded as me. What is your current setup? What are your short term plans for upgrading? I usually stay a little behind the times because of money but as long as I can play pretty recent PC games I am okay. I also usually build my own boxes but this last time I bought an off the shelf Dell. This just reinforced my loathing of Dell's customer service/tech support. I prefer HP OTS but the computers themselves are comparable to Dell. Its the service from Dell that really sux. ANYWAY Right now I have an i3 Dual Core Intel 3.1Ghz (another thing I despise is Intel). I would have rather gotten an AMD but I was using my credit card and yadda yadda yadda. There is Hyperthreading with the Intel of course. I have used AMD so long that I was not aware that Hyper threaded CPUs show up as two CPUs and a dual core shows up as 4 CPUs in Task Manager, DXDIAG, System info, etc. I have 6 gigs of RAM (only upgradable to 8 gigs but at DDR3 PC3-12800 that is not too bad). I have a 1 terabyte 7400 RPM HD. Would love to go with an Solid State Drive (SSD). Of course if I had my pick I would get the $3000+ OCZ 1 terabyte SSD but I may settle for one just big enough for my operating system and slave a regular SATA for the data files. AMD Radeon HD 6450 (Engineering Sample) 1024Mb - This is the lowest card in the 6000 series but it is discrete and beat the onboard video I would have been stuck with. Would love to get a couple of dual cards for about 8 Gigs of video RAM. So again Intel i3 Dual Core 3.1Ghz with Hyperthreading. Windows 8 Developers Preview 6 Gigs RAM 1 Terabyte Sata III AMD Radeon HD 6450 (Engineering Sample) 1024Mb
  7. Bump. No eCommerce or web marketing guys out there?
  8. Bump. So no one is using Windows 8?
  9. Okay that's good about not swapping accounts. As for the site being up. Yes it is now. That was an hour and 48 minutes ago. You how the server goes up and down. Not complaining, just saying. You know. Glad it's up. Hopefully Stevie will be up soon. What is going on with it? Keeping us (customers) informed keeps us happy. Thanks!
  10. So MiJon has to be a bot, right? All these posts and none of them show up in their profile. 69 posts and still a newbie. I guess it doesn't matter as long as the posts are valid and the themes are good?
  11. Many are asking about being on both servers in hopes that if one is down their site will remain up on the other server. This is not possible but it does seem that the primary NS is on Stevie and the secondary is on Johnny. A good move but only helps in the area of NS. If the host server is down then the site will still be down. Please keep us informed. Communication helps a lot even when things are so bad. Customers stay loyal if you keep them in the loop.
  12. Thanks! Keep us informed. Communication helps a lot even when things are so bad. Customers stay loyal if you keep them in the loop.
  13. Well its still only my guess but if Bad Wolf is right and they have put some of Stevie's accounts on Johnny then that is the reason why I cannot reach my site on Johnny! Which means I was right but I don't want to be right, I want my site up and running.
  14. Cold fusion is the next energy source. There seem to be some credible claims that is has been accomplished just recently. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/45153076/ns/technology_and_science-science/t/italian-cold-fusion-machine-passes-another-test/ http://news.discovery.com/tech/cold-fusion-claims-resurface.html Nothing good ever comes from anti-matter, only cyber men. Don't you guys watch Doctor Who? Geez!
  15. I can definitely see where humans try to rationalize God and the universe we live in. I do think some people use religion as a way to steer society but I do not think true peace comes from people. Man is inherently moving away from God's rules and peace. Men left to their own devices will gravitate towards chaos. I don't think there were ever or will ever be people who are just enough to create rules that bring peace. God created those rules and some people use them whether they believe in God or not. In other words they may take the credit for those rules or people may try to give them credit. The being that people call "God" is formed from an abstract concept. This means that people have created order (an intelligent being who oversees the universe) from chaos (many random events that occur in the universe that have no particular correlation). People do this to be able to interpret, and make sense of, the universe around them. If you think about it this way: [iNPUT FROM SENSES] => (Algorithm to make sense of the universe) => [PREDICTION OF WHAT WILL HAPPEN] The human brain searches for the "Algorithm to make sense of the universe" part to be able to understand the universe. For many, this algorithm, or explanation, is a belief system, in which people will predict that good things will happen if they remain faithful to their system. For others, that belief system is science. Of course, this is a huge oversimplification of the systems, and some may even combine the two to create their own (system/explanation/algorithm/however you see it) for explaining the universe. In every case, people will modify their system to match the environment around them, no matter what their belief system is. For example, neither science nor religion is the same as it was a few hundred years ago. Science did not have the standard model, and religion believed that the sun was the center of the universe. Taking all of this into account, we will now ask the question "does it really matter?" I don't know, and can't provide that answer. To do so would be to make a subjective statement, one that has infinitely many ways to prove or disprove it.
  16. I hope the solution for Stevie is not to put some of Stevie's accounts on Johnny. From what I have seen that would make both servers unstable instead of balancing out the load and helping both servers.
  17. Since I have signed up, I have been on Johnny. The longest time down I have experienced is 30 minutes. I have watched the monitoring site for Stevie and lately it has been down for hours at a time. http://heliohost.grd.net.pl/monitor/ The admins say (and I believe them) Johnny is usually the one that is more unstable so I would have to think that Stevie is having temporary problems and the admins are working to resolve them. I can only guess as to what those problems are: most likely too many accounts/sites. If this is the case there may need to be another server put in place or a back up server for load balancing. Maybe load balancing in the router if both servers are on the same T (whatever the dedicated line). Maybe another T. These are only my guesses and thoughts.
  18. Even HelioHost themselves say the Johnny server is up and down but I have been watching the monitoring site and at least lately Johnny has been up much more than Stevie. I am glad I stayed on the Johnny server.
  19. The server does appear to be down right now but this is an old post. Please create or follow a new one. http://heliohost.grd.net.pl/monitor/archive/?2011-11-24
  20. Pretty neat. If I only had an iPhone or Android. I have an older HTC smart phone. Check out the lens and software on this site. http://www.0-360.com/ You can make your own 360 degree shots and put them in either HTML, Java or QuickTime. I made my own version of the lens using a reflective globe and just letting the lens I already had on my camera focus on it. The software is free! I think they goofed. What selfrespecting photographer can't rig something like that up as opposed to spending hundreds of dollars.
  21. I did! https://plus.google.com/u/0/?tab=mX#107283547756054585254/posts
  22. I signed up a few months ago because it was the next big thing and I do like Google for the most part. I think their Google Adwords branch is run by criminals but the search is the best. Anyway. It has not really taken off like I thought it would but I am going to stick with it and keep +1'ing sites. npl I circled you.
  23. 300mm lens and a tripod. I did crop the picture but that did nothing for the detail of the moon's surface. That was exposure time and focal length. Some may, at first thought, believe you should have a long exposure time because you are shooting in the dark but in reality you have to cut the exposure time pretty drastically because you are basically shooting a source of light.
  24. Is someone working on this? It does appear Stevie has been down for a few hours. http://heliohost.grd.net.pl/monitor/ <<live view Screenshot ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sorry I had just posted my question. I see you are working on it.
