Here is the link to the instructions for turning off your system paging. These are instructions straight from Microsoft and they worked for me. I recommend doing this if you have 6 or more Gigs of RAM. This sped up my entire system noticeably. This is only a suggestion but it helped me. I am also posting a screenshot I made of where to turn off the space allocated for the Page file. This is a separate step and may be a little redundant but it doesn't hurt. http://btfy.me/6fgybp

Xbox 360 W/ Kinect Or Nintendo Wii
xwinuser replied to xwinuser's topic in Technology and the Internet
I have not gotten much use out of the Xbox yet. I am a long time PC gamer and the console controller is so foreign to me right now. I play action games (First Person Shooters) almost exclusively and the keyboard is so much better for that. I am going to have to breakdown and get Call of Duty - Modern Warfare 3 for my 360 though and just tough it out. -
Windows 8 Beta Will Be Out In February

So Developer's Preview was horrible. Has anyone tried the consumer PreBeta? -
I created 360DegreeNetworking.com as a go-to blog site to address all aspects of Information Technology (anything computer related). I have posted a few articles myself but my current objective has been building the site's viewer traffic. I will continue to do this but now is the time I would really appreciate any help in adding content (articles) to the site. Therefore, I am asking for all computer people (geeks, techies, professionals, secretaries, educators, daily computer users, anyone!) for contributions in the way of informational reviews, tips, guides, news, etc. that we can feature on the site giving you full credit through your own by line. This will give many of you the opportunity to share that bit of golden wisdom you know you have deep inside but have not had an outlet for until now. At the moment there is no profit being made by the site so all contributions will be voluntary (no pay) but you will hopefully benefit from the personal satisfaction and synergy of posting with like minds and enlightening those who are interested in learning from your experience and real world knowledge. If interested, please visit the site and submit an article for approval or email me at compuwise@netzero.com (put 360 in the subject). Articles will need to be around 400 words (no stubs), relevant to current technology, factual (opinions welcome but back them up with some facts) and will be approved returned for editing upon review.

What Are Your Computer Specs? (Directed To Everyone)
xwinuser replied to xwinuser's topic in Technology and the Internet
Sounds like a pretty cool system. I have always heard good things about Alienware. I would probably like to have one even though they are associated with Dell whom I have come to despise. I do not like their tech support of customer and have had problems with them at home and at work over many years. I am looking to up my video card from the AMD (ATI) HD 6450 to just about anything higher up in the 6000 series. Dell even states on their website that the 6450 was designed to just barely edge out the onboard Intel video chipset. The 6450 is a pretty decent card but I still want to play Call of Duty MW3 at full resolution and online. My dream system would include a 1gig SSD hard drive (about $3300) and the latest AMD 7000 series video card boasted to be the fastest in the world (also around $3300). This will always be a dream though as I usually build my own systems and spend as little as possible. At work we try not to go over $200 (not counting the OS license). heh -
No one likes to be told what to do and I especially do not like the government thinking they know better than me what I need to know but we do not want our enemies to know what we know. I do not like that someone who was not an American took it upon himself to release information that could put American troops in danger. I would not like that situation for any country.Jullian did not have any skin in the game so to speak. It was not his problem. I believe his intentions were for fame. Maybe not money but definitely not for a noble cause.

Fox News Asks: Will Google, Amazon, And Facebook Black Out The Net?
xwinuser replied to xwinuser's topic in Other Discussion
Did Helio have their own black out? I was not able to access the forums for a week. My site stayed up though. So basically some of the major sites did attempt a watered down blackout. Google only blacked out its logo but search still worked. Was not aware of any services from Google that did not work. Facebook kept clipping right on along with no interruptions. Wikipedia was the only one that I personally noticed that blacked out their page with a message to contact your local government official in protest to SOPA and PIPA. Anyone aware of others that went offline in some way? -

Fox News Asks: Will Google, Amazon, And Facebook Black Out The Net?
xwinuser replied to xwinuser's topic in Other Discussion
True. That is why I always try to get my info from multiple and varied sources. I am not going to comment on the article itself, but I do want to point out that this is not a completely true statement. This is because writers (not just fox) are able to use the English language and rhetorical devices to portray one side as better than the other. I guess another good question is "What would you do if this did happen?". The Daily What - http://geeks.thedailywh.at/2011/12/30/possible-internet-blackout-of-the-day/ Mail Online - http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2080066/Top-web-firms-set-impose-blackout-protest-Big-Brother-online-piracy-bill.html?ito=feeds-newsxml International Business Times - http://www.ibtimes.com/articles/274751/20111230/sopa-bill-protest-will-facebook-google-twitter.htm The Tech Game - http://www.thetechgame.com/News/article/sid=2875.html -
Not trying to spread FUD. If you would like to research and then comment that would be great. http://www.foxnews.com/scitech/2011/12/30/will-google-amazon-and-facebook-blackout-net/ Simple request and note: 1) Despite how some feel about Fox News they are a major news outlet 2) Fox is only posing the question - you decide 3) I like Fox. Please only comment on the topic of an Internet Black Out.

I like WS FTP from IP Switch http://www.ipswitchft.com/ . They used to offer a free version and may still offer it free to students and non-profits but the latest version I downloaded was only a trial and expired. This what our wiki says about uploading files to your site - http://wiki.helionet.org/Uploading_files_to_your_site You are using your username@yourdomainname.com to log in, right? like username@360degreenetworking.com I guess we will know for sure when you get that screenshot to xaav. You're in good hands with him.

It is just the nature of the Johnny server. I am on Johnny and I use notepad and mostly a third party FTP client. I use cPanel occasionally but yeah you are not going to be able to connect to ftp for long periods of time even if you remain active. You can go back as far as the monitor will let you and see the server has its good days and bad days. http://heliohost.grd.net.pl/monitor/archive/?2011-12-22 This is not something anyone is working on as an open ticket type issue. It may get better in time.

There is a known issue the admins are trying to address. It is not specific to php. Please read the comments from xaav. http://www.helionet.org/index/topic/11184-constant-500-errors-on-helionet/page__fromsearch__1

Sorry xaav. I did not notice your link was to a screenshot.

I like Wordpress so far. Seen it around for years but just started using it since signing up for HelioHost. I have heard some good things about Drupal too but never used it.

True, if the script failed the admins would need to fix. I would like to know if it worked after waiting which would indicate the queue was just backed up. Also, some of the admins have stated they have been a little tied up the last few days. I just want to get to the bottom of the issue for future references.
-
How long ago did you delete the account? Did you use the deletion script? The account sits in a deletion queue just like new accounts sit in a creation queue. It may be that the script has not run on your account yet. This is a link to an older post but with a similar situation. Check it out. http://www.helionet....h__1#entry70467 * not sure if you saw this post before I edited it. At first I thought the script may not have worked and I was going to suggest that you manually remove the info at godaddy. While that may still be a possibility, I would not do that until you have waited a sufficient amount of time for the HelioHost deletion script to run its course. Recommended wait time is 48 hours. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ This is what I see when I DIG your account using the DIG tool at this URL - http://http://helioh...pl/dns-checker/

When you transfer the domain name to godaddy just enter the NS servers I listed above. Godaddy will make you choose whether you are hosting with them or not. Choose "I have specific name servers for my domains" The A record would depend on which server at Helio you choose: johnny or stevie. Please go here http://wiki.helionet.org/Signing_up and read the section After Signup. If you have already done this part then just get everything setup at Godaddy first. Here is what it looks like at GoDaddy for MY account: That is pretty much all I can do until you get setup with GoDaddy but that is really about all you need to do anyway.
-
No just add the name servers at godaddy and wait how long godaddy says to wait. Clear the cache often. Nothing needs to be changed at HelioHost as long as you have a valid account. _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Are you saying you also own rkysh.com? That is not the domain you mentioned above. I can get to rkysh.heliohost.org Which domain are you talking about? If you are talking about rkysh.heliohost.org and still get the parked page or account queued page then you need to clear cache. Type in your URL, hit enter and then hit F5 on the keyboard. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Here is a link to some instructions on clearing your cache http://wiki.helionet...lear_your_cache If you are talking about rkysh.heliohost.org then you can see in the screenshot above that I can access that site with no problem on my home computer. It sounds like you are talking about a top level domain (TLD) like rkysh.com, for example, but I did a WHOIS search at godaddy and no one owns rkysh.com
-
Domain Name Servers, DNS, NS = same thing. Yes change them to this ns1.heliohost.org ns2.heliohost.org Your site is up now. If you are still getting the account queued page you need to clear your cache. Note - Once you tell godaddy that you are not hosting with them then you will no longer be able to change the A record. This is not a problem. You no longer need to change anything at this point. If you start hosting with godaddy at some point then the A record option should reappear.
-
First and foremost you need to wait up to 48 hours (usually less) for the changes at godaddy to take affect. That being said. I use godaddy and it only took a few hours at the most for my changes to take affect. 48 is a worse case scenario. Second - you can use this site to check the status of your DNS propagation http://heliohost.grd...pl/dns-checker/ Since I am using godaddy as well you can type in my site now to see how the setup is supposed to look. Type in 360degreenetworking.com and hit enter. If you signed up to be on the Johnny server then that is the correct address for the A record. 64.62.211.131 the DNS also need to be set: ns1.heliohost.org ns2.heliohost.org Another very important thing to do when posting here is to let us know what domain you are talking about, when you signed up at Heliohost, when you made the changes at your registrar (godaddy). Username for your account but not the password. This is to help you as much as it is to help us.
