  1. yeah most likely new games will be vista compatible. anyone know what exactly about vista makes it uncompatible?
  2. >< No I'm just using CGI Proxy to make a private one, and I'm trying to do something simple like sign into Yahoo! Mail or Orkut and it's not allowing me. I've tried PHProxy and Zelune, but they both don't work that great.
  3. Because the proxy needs to running on a secure server to retrieve secure URLs.
  4. well if you're talking about phpbb2, take a look at the newer phpbb3, which I find looks alot better. if you're talking about phpbb3, then I guess there's Yabb (Yet Another Bulletin Board) - you can install that from your cPanel.
  5. omg wow... lol spoiled. jk. but seriously...that must've cost alot of money. i'd hate to see one virus destroy it all. xD
  6. the "small programs" are what eventually bog your computer down. and you don't know what it's changing precisely. and also remember that it only changes the LOOK of your computer...vista has many other differences other than just look. so you really can't say that by getting that pack you'll be replacing vista.
  7. not when you're using a proxy and need to view a page that's, for example, has security and can be trusted like paypal etc.
  8. lol...i have vista and it's pretty great. first the bad things: the aero interface has a huge load on the graphics card, because of transparencies and stuff...and so the battery on my laptop runs out much more quickly...the windows flicker when I resize... but so far no major problems. the interface is sweet...the flip 3d and etc in my opinion is much better than expose...although i like expose on macs its a pain in the butt to navigate between windows of different programs (feel free to bash me for attacking macs) - pc's are cheaper (than macs) - I spent less than 1000 on my laptop, which is a dell (yuck) with an intel core 2 duo cpu with around 2.0 (or faster, i forget) cpu, 2gb of ram, windows vista home premium, a 15.4 inch widescreen with a max resolution of 1680x1050 (and only 80gb of hard drive space, however) my friend, on the other hand, bought an imac with similar specs (except 1gb of ram and 250gb of hard drive) and spent 2500 dollars. - pc's have many more (cheaper) programs. you might argue that mac's can use programs such as BootCamp, but those...you guessed it, cost more money. and plus they're usually not as fast. in the end, it really comes down to money. PC's are a great deal cheaper, and mac's may not be worth it. If you have the money though, i'd agree with buying a mac. mac's have better integration and stability. -------- and back to the thread, you shouldn't upgrade to vista...i've heard from friends that it makes your ocmputer alot slower. oh and vista also comes with some really nice features, such as ReadyBoost, which i use to convert a flash drive into something inbetween RAM and disk space...not as fast as RAM but faster than accessing the disk. it's claimed to make your computer faster, but it's more noticeable if u have half a gig of RAM than if u have 2 gigs, like me. also, vista comes with meeting space, which is similar to a buffed up version of netmeeting, some cool games (im not joking, they're addicting), a sidebar (which prefer over gogole's), and more.
  9. ...the ftp program should most definitely have it. right click the file and click properties. filezilla is a good ftp program. firefox also has its own ftp plugin which is really good too. (fireftp)
  10. Ah I think the error was generated by my browser. When I try to go to https://jaymaa.heliohost.org/ I get an error saying "jaymaa.heliohost.org has sent an incorrect or unexpected message. Error Code -12263" Upon searching this on Google, a reference page on the Mozilla webpage (I'm using Firefox) says: "This generally indicates that the remote peer system has a flawed implementation of SSL, and is violating the SSL specification." I really don't know any Perl either...but does the above help at all in figuring out what's wrong? Basically I just need to have https:// work. I appreciate the help greatly...
  11. Does anyone know how to put shortcut keys onto a webpage? I've found javascript methods, but they're not working so well; is the any other method of adding shortcut keys? edit// OR, does anyone know how to allow a function to be repeated? As in, if I pressed the previously mentioned shortcut key a second time, the function will still run? Because right now it's only working once.
  12. well, for example, when I try to access Orkut it won't allow me. edit// and it would be SO appreciated if you did.
  13. ah man that's pretty cool. perhaps view the source. see if that changes when you edit it.
  14. I downloaded it...and they're using the same exact script. =X

  16. i posted this in part of a thread in the customer service section, but in the hopes of more people helping... does any1 know how I can install SSL support for CGI Proxy? edit// Does anyone know if https:// can be made to work?
  17. lol im in if i dont have to pay
  18. Yeah I have CGIProxy installed i found it at http://www.jmarshall.com/tools/cgiproxy/ . What exactly does that mean, I'll need SSL access? >< Sorry I'm really unexperienced in this area.
  19. I'm trying to install a proxy as well, and so far the script is working. To support SSL, however, the directions say to install OpenSSL as well as Net::SSLeay. From the cPanel, it appears Net::SSLeay is already installed. Being unfamiliar with perl modules or anything related to it (I installed the proxy with simple directions), I have two questions: 1. Is OpenSSL installed? 2. If not, is it even possible for me to install OpenSSL? 3. If yes, how can I install it? I've searched around, and all the sites say to do things at a Unix prompt...which I don't think I can do since my stuff is being hosted. edit// um...nm...I went to cPanel, Perl Modules, typed in OpenSSL...and apparently it's installed. but I realized that wasn't the program - sites like Orkut won't let me log in because it's not through a secure proxy. I think that means it has to be through https:// , right? Is there any way to do that?
  20. yeah that's true...i've also found sites in the past that give you a free, temporary email for those kinds of sites...it's really convenient. you just type in your desired username, click "create", and you can go to the inbox. that way the site can send you an activation link, you can click it, and never have to use that email address again. at the start of the post I couldn't remember the site, but now i recall http://www.guerrillamail.com/ as being one. there are definitely others as well.
  21. yeah lol I later realized that...stupid of me.
  22. Holy cow! How much money did that cost you?
  23. Is there any chance an intermediate posting plan is created? Perhaps providing more space but the same bandwidth? Because I frankly don't need the bandwidth, but I do need the space. And paying 4 times the price doesn't seem worth it. =X
  24. that would be useful to find the activeness of a user...and i think phpbb3 has that option for administrators to see it in the ACP
