HelioHost Posted September 22, 2021 Posted September 22, 2021 (edited) Username: wesolee, Server: Ricky, Main domain: popnow.heliohost.us Hello, I understand that you are moving servers over to the new plesk type. Did we lose SSL? I keep getting the "Not Secure' notice. thanks, Wes O'lee?|?CEO a:?The POP Stream?|?Los Angeles, CA?|?90008 e:?wesolee@gmail.com [mailto:wesolee@gmail.com]?|?w:?www.thePOPstream.com [http://www.thepopstream.com/] m:?310-903-7663 [facebook icon] [https://www.facebook.com/thepopstream]? A few days ago, with absolutely no prior warning, cPanel unexpectedly revoked all of our licenses, and are now trying to charge us over $17,000 per year to renew them. Obviously since we're a non-profit funded by donations we don't have anywhere near that kind of money to pay their ransom. We've been a faithful cPanel license holder since 2005, and over the past 16 years we haven't had any issues with them at all until today. Our servers are all inexorably intertwined with cPanel/WHM and all the customizations and systems we've written over the years are worthless without cPanel. If you try to log in to cPanel it will give you errors and not let you log in, but we've managed to create full backups for everyone. If you click the download backup link below it will allow you to save a compressed file that contains all of your files, databases, emails, and all of your cPanel settings. If you need help extracting the information you're looking for from the backup please let us know by replying to this email or posting on our support forums at https://www.helionet.org/ Don't worry though, we have already signed an even better contract with an even better control panel. We will be taking your server offline soon to rebuild it using Plesk instead of cPanel. We've never set up a Plesk server before so it may take a couple of weeks to get it all ready to go. Once it's ready we will attempt to restore the full cPanel backups onto the new Plesk control panel. In the meantime your site will be offline until we can finish the rebuild though. If you need to keep your website online during the rebuild the only kind of hosting we can offer without cPanel licenses is our VPS service. A month of the basic Mercury VPS plan only costs $4, and we hope that we can have your server back online in less than a month. By default, all the VPS plans only come with a bare Ubuntu 20 operating system and root SSH access. If you're not very familiar with SSH we can also install a free control panel called Hestia for you which comes with a script that should be able to import your full cPanel backup file into the VPS. The link to order a VPS is https://www.heliohost.org/vps/ If you would like Hestia installed too please reply to this email or post on our support forum to request it. You can also request it by replying after you receive your SSH login credentials. We're truly sorry that we won't be able to provide free hosting for a while, and it's really terrible that we weren't able to even give any advance notice to our users, but like we said it was completely unexpected that cPanel did this to us. If you have any questions of comments we would love to hear from you. You can simply reply to this email, and it will be posted for our volunteers and community to respond to. Flaze Posted September 22, 2021 Posted September 22, 2021 Yes. For now, you can generate your own SSL certificate (from https://zerossl.com/ for example) and copy them to your home folder (do not copy them to the public_html folder as it would be publicly visible!). Our root admin will then install them for you.

infantex Posted September 22, 2021 Posted September 22, 2021 cPanel is not working (the license was revoked, as per the email that was sent to you). You need to use FTP. As for zerossl, try entering just: "popnow.heliohost.us" (without the: "https://" part).

HelioHost Posted November 8, 2022 Author Posted November 8, 2022 I installed a new SSL today but it does not seem to be working. I verified by uploading txt file to .well-known/pki-validation Then uploaded my new csr to the SSL/csrs folder Then uploaded my new key to the SSL/keys folder then uploaded the ca.bundle to the SSL/certs folder. Still says the site is not secure thanks, Wes O'lee?|?CEO a:?The POP Stream?|?Los Angeles, CA?|?90008 e:?wesolee@gmail.com [mailto:wesolee@gmail.com]?|?w:?www.thePOPstream.com [http://www.thepopstream.com/] m:?310-903-7663 [facebook icon] [https://www.facebook.com/thepopstream]? Krydos Posted November 9, 2022 Posted November 9, 2022 There you go https://www.sslshopper.com/ssl-checker.html#hostname=popnow.heliohost.us When you asked if HelioHost had auto-renewing SSL certificates, I assumed you meant on Plesk. cPanel doesn't have auto-renewing SSL certificates because our licenses were revoked for not paying their ransom of $17,000 per year.
Krydos Posted November 9, 2022 Posted November 9, 2022 If you're curious, here is your ETA for getting moved to Plesk https://heliohost.org/eta/?u=wesolee
HelioHost Posted November 9, 2022 Author Posted November 9, 2022 Yes, I Believe i am on plesk. Do you guys offer free ssl now? Or do I still need to buy an ssl via 3rd party? Krydos Posted November 9, 2022 Posted November 9, 2022 No, you're on cPanel still. You're currently number 2881 in line to be moved to Plesk https://heliohost.org/eta/?u=wesolee No one has had to pay for SSL certificates since 2016 when Let's Encrypt started offering free 90 day SSL certificates. If you don't want to have to update your SSL every 90 days you can choose to pay for a longer certificate, but you don't have to. Once you're on Plesk the SSL certificate will automatically renew itself so you won't even have to worry about it at all.
HelioHost Posted November 9, 2022 Author Posted November 9, 2022 Oh great! Will you guys let me know when my site has moved to plesk? Until then, I renewed my ssl and was trying to reinstall it today but I can?t get it to work. Would you be able to help me with that? Krydos Posted November 9, 2022 Posted November 9, 2022 Yes, you will receive an email when it's your turn to move to Plesk. You aren't able to install SSL on your own on cPanel. All you need to do is upload your new certificate files to /home/wesolee/ and then let us know that you want them to be installed.
