valeriap Posted December 28, 2020 Posted December 28, 2020 (edited) Hi Folks, First thanks for existing! In the last 2 days I have been wandering around the hosting services looking for a place to host our site. I registered at least in 8 of them and somehow they always have problems. Getting here was like finding water in the desert. Anyhow, here come the question: our site is a Brazilian one for Brazilian public. Actually the site is live with WordPress and working at Helio just fine valeriaprofessora.com.br It is very slow to load, full page takes 6 seconds. I did a test which results you should be able to see here https://www.webpagetest.org/result/201228_DiVJ_3e588747fb8c17a360aefe1ff36b0fda/ Changing to a closer host is no option, I will stick here for sure I read around but there are so many hints, and it is not easy to understand priorities. Any suggestion where should we start optimizing? Thanks! Edited December 28, 2020 by valeriap
OnEnemy Posted December 28, 2020 Posted December 28, 2020 Actually the site is live with WordPress and working at Helio just finevaleriaprofessora.com.br You may want to start here. WordPress is highly discouraged because it doesn't work well here. Picking a different software will help. WordPress causes alot of suspensions and because of that reason alone, its frowned upon. I suggest you find a ligher CMS. Personally I use Bludit, but ive used Joomla and its nice too, maybe a tad overwhelming, but once you get the hang of it, youre fine. In any event, I saw youre on tommy, so thats a plus for optimization. I'm gonna throw this over to root admins to see if they have any other suggestions.
valeriap Posted December 28, 2020 Author Posted December 28, 2020 Hi Jenova, thanks for quick replay just spent last week doing the site, but ok if there is no better choice I can give a try. I saw there is plugin that can help https://blog.bludit.com/how-to-migrate-from-wordpress-to-bludit Would you suggest I create an add-on domain within my account, create the site with Bludit and then if result is good, point my URL to that? Still I will wait if root admins has any silver bullet hint Cheers

wolstech Posted December 29, 2020 Posted December 29, 2020 I've never heard of it, but pretty much anything is better than WP, so definitely give it a shot. WP is junk internally, insomuch that it's our number one cause of performance issues, high load suspensions, even accidental phishing bans (when it gets hacked, and it almost certainly will considering how insecure it is).
OnEnemy Posted December 29, 2020 Posted December 29, 2020 First resultAh yes. Penetration testing. >_>
valeriap Posted December 29, 2020 Author Posted December 29, 2020 Ok thanks, got the message. But before I start redoing again which CMS you suggest? Bludit or another one? I need basic functionality. Static pages, a contact box, SEO optimized, https, mobile responsive and the possibility to insert one or more surveys
wolstech Posted December 29, 2020 Posted December 29, 2020 While not the easiest, you can do all but the contact form using plain HTML and CSS if you don't mind working directly in HTML. Also, a script to email you the results of a contact form isn't terribly hard to make in PHP. Joomla was a pretty popular alternative to WP, but it's become a bit bloated these days (though still not as bad as WP). It's hard for me to speak to public alternatives since I ended up building my own CMS (granted it needs an overhaul due to the dated look of my site, it still works and isn't slow or hacked 8 years later...)
Krydos Posted December 29, 2020 Posted December 29, 2020 I've never tried any of these, but I found this article https://www.maketecheasier.com/best-static-website-cms/ Static sites will load much faster, and are much harder to hack. You'll need some sort of scripting language to do a contact form, you can't make those static, but they aren't too hard to implement. Let us know if you try any of these options and how it works out for you.
valeriap Posted December 29, 2020 Author Posted December 29, 2020 Thanks folks, actually my coding and html knowledge is minimum, just enough to understand what you are talking about. Probably I will stick with one of the CMS in the link you sent. The site is actually live so I have time to study around. If I got stuck I will shout for helpThanks all
