Are you using the right settings? The FTP accounts you create in cPanel usually use the below settings, not the SFTP settings that your main FTP account uses:

 

Host: johnny.heliohost.org

Port: 21

Type: Plain FTP / No encryption

Username: ftpusername@yourmaindomain.heliohost.org

Password: <ftp account's password>
