icgit2 Posted February 26, 2018 Posted February 26, 2018 Recently a malware used one of my e-mail accounts to send thousands of SPAM and my IP was blacklisted in several antispam services. I was able to remove from the lists of all services except gmail. Is it possible to change my dedicated IP address?
Krydos Posted February 26, 2018 Posted February 26, 2018 You're responsible for your account and any malware or spam it might send. We have a finite number of IP addresses, and it wouldn't be fair to everyone else if someone was to ruin each of our IPs in this same way.
icgit2 Posted February 26, 2018 Author Posted February 26, 2018 OK, I understand and your explanation seems fair. I am making the necessary arrangements to "clean" my IP but I do not know how long it may take. Meanwhile I'm looking for alternatives. Can I get (buy) another dedicated IP and leave the current one unused?

r0nmlt Posted March 11, 2018 Posted March 11, 2018 (edited) i don't want to butt in, just want to understand the mechanics. Don't all users on the same server get the same ip address? say me and this guy both reside on tommy, don't we both use tommy's address, namely 65.19.143.6 Edited March 11, 2018 by r0nmlt
wolstech Posted March 11, 2018 Posted March 11, 2018 You do unless you buy a dedicated IP. With a dedicated IP your account gets its own IP that's not shared with anyone. This particular user has such an IP, and managed to get it blocked by a few mail providers for spam. He was the only one who got blocked because no other accounts use that IP.
r0nmlt Posted March 11, 2018 Posted March 11, 2018 Thanks wolstech, now i get it. Never knew you offered that service.
icgit2 Posted March 14, 2018 Author Posted March 14, 2018 FYI, I've already managed to get my IP out of all the SPAM blacklist services Thanks!
