HelioHost Posted October 22, 2017 Posted October 22, 2017 Good afternoon,I am planning to switch to your hosting services. I am wondering what myoptions are with Let's Encrypt? Do you guys support this? Thank you, --Andrew Gluck
wolstech Posted October 23, 2017 Posted October 23, 2017 You can install an LE certificate instead if you wish, but they would need to be manually renewed every 90 days. Tommy and Ricky offer free automatic SSL certificates through Comodo though, so there's no need to use LE. These certificates issue themselves within 24 hours of creating a domain, and renew on their own as they approach their expiration date. On Johnny, LE is your only option, and manual renewals are required. We don't offer automatic SSL on that server. We have a guide on our Wiki for using LE with our servers: http://wiki.helionet.org/Installing_a_Let%27s_Encrypt_SSL_Certificate
HelioHost Posted October 23, 2017 Author Posted October 23, 2017 Awesome, thank you for the quick reply, I did not expect that with a fiveman volunteer team. I found your forum immediately after sending the email.I will always check the forum first and keep questions to a minimum. That will not be a problem at all. I am already going to be signing in oncea month anyway to keep my account live, it will be nothing to make therenewal part of my regimen.I want to tank you all for the amazing service you are offering. I wentahead and switched over. Every add that I saw I clicked on as well, as Ican not donate yet. I am using johnny right now, so I believe that LE will be my best option. wolstech Posted October 23, 2017 Posted October 23, 2017 The only thing to watch for is that, with Johnny, he often bogs down or errors out while adding domains/changing certificates due to the fact he's a very crowded server. He's meant as a "starter"/"demo" server for experimenting with the service, so we focus more on letting our users play around with the service. Johnny also has older software on it because of our Ruby on Rails hosting being on that server (cPanel dropped support for this, so we're unable to upgrade the server). If you need something stable that's going to be reliably up and fast, I'd recommend trying to sign up on Ricky or Tommy (even though you can't donate yet, we have a few free registration slots that open at midnight UTC every day and fill quickly). The performance is much better and there's very few errors compared to Johnny. You also get more functionality like different versions of PHP, newer Java and ASP.NET, Automatic SSL, instant domain activation, and a few other things. We hope you enjoy your time here. If you need anything, feel free to send us another email or post on our forums. We're here to help!
