[Hh#99824] Addon Domain Doesn't Have Domain Created

Recommended Posts

I deleted the old account, created a new one 'browning' and then added

domain sfskier.com via Addon Domain but there is not any entry in Addon

Domain now for sfskier.com. There was the error message again about ending

prematurely but in a previous email you said not to worry and that was just

the server being busy. However, I'm not convinced this completed

successfully as there is no entry in Addon Domain to manage the domain.

Please see if you are able to successfully add domains in Addon Domain on

Johnny and confirm there is not a problem. Thanks.

Those types of errors are common on Johnny. Johnny is our experimental server so the load can frequently be high and when the load is high delicate processes like creating an addon domain have a tendency to break. If you would like a server where those errors don't occur we recommend a production server like Ricky or Tommy. You can also ask us for help and we can manually fix domains on Johnny that don't get added correctly.

Would you like me to try to fix the addon domain sfskier.com on the account browning? I hesitate to expend the effort since it seems likely to just get deleted again immediately. If the whole point is to see if addon domains even work on Johnny they do, but sometimes they take a little extra fiddling since the server is so overloaded.

You could check them out; sfskier.com and bgb.net. I did AddonDomain for eac=

h of those with 'browning' account and have not touched it since. I don't se=

e them listed in the Addon Domain section but they seem partially configured=

. If its too busy to correctly finish, then the scripting is broken. It need=

s to atomically complete to have any confidence its configured correctly, ev=

en if it takes a while. Did it complete 50%, 90%?

Maybe you could test Addon Domain in another account for errors after checki=

ng these domains.

Thanks

I have tested addon domains on Johnny accounts dozens of times. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't. It depends mostly the current server load on Johnny. Adding addon domains always works on Ricky and Tommy. If you need an account that always adds addon domains correctly we highly recommend Ricky or Tommy. I don't know how else to explain it to you.

Maybe the thing I haven't explained properly is we know exactly why addon domains don't get created properly every time. As I said several times, it's because of the high load on Johnny, but what I think I haven't explain thoroughly is that the reason the load is so high is primarily because we allow unlimited free signups each day. In the past we tried to make all of our servers production type servers, but our service is more popular than we have hardware to accomodate all of the people who want a free account. All of our servers being full when someone went to create their account caused a lot of frustration so we came up with a new idea: We would have two types of server, experimental and production. Experimental servers are fo those who don't care about uptime or speed, but just want to get an account created immediately. Production servers are for people who do care about uptime and speed and don't mind being patient in exchange for a much higher quality server. It's free either way. If I'm still doing a poor job explaining this to you please let me know and I'll try again.

Anyways, I created those two addon domains for you and you can now see them on your addon domain page.

Actually I understand what you are saying about the load being high and how

you separate your customers - however, if Addon Domain breaks, Johnny is

unusable for people, defeating the point of any testing. And as these

configs are deleted and tested again or due to how you acquire a Tommy

server, deleting and re-creating accounts, its imperative this works,

unless you contact Customer Service every time. As a software engineer, if

running an application is unpredictable, it is broken - sorry.
