RatDb Posted March 31, 2016 Posted March 31, 2016 Do you know when Johnny will be back on-line? I just want to get some data from my database and do a backup. Thanks!
wolstech Posted March 31, 2016 Posted March 31, 2016 I'm wondering the same thing. Johnny is terrible at uptime, but he's not usually this bad. I'd recommend once he comes back online that you back everything up and move to Stevie. Stevie has much better performance and uptime than Johnny.
RatDb Posted March 31, 2016 Author Posted March 31, 2016 Thanks. I'll make that move. I just hadn't backed up the latest database updates. I hope they don't get dropped. Not terrible, just annoying when it happens.
wolstech Posted March 31, 2016 Posted March 31, 2016 They shouldn't get dropped. Just gotta wait until he comes back up to get them. If you look at the historical data on the monitor, you can see the Stevie vs. Johnny performance comparison: http://heliohost.grd.net.pl/monitor/ The only time I recommend Johnny is if you really need the features he has. We're also in the process of setting up a new server that will offer Johnny's features with Stevie's performance levels. Soon enough it'll be possible to have the best of both worlds.
RatDb Posted March 31, 2016 Author Posted March 31, 2016 Thanks for the link. I did manage to find that in the forum and have been checking it out. Whenever Johnny comes back online, I'll get migrated to Stevie.
greendude120 Posted April 1, 2016 Posted April 1, 2016 I registered with Johnny b4 it went down for multiple days and now I've moved to Stevie except my domain name is still parked on Johnny and I cant even login to undo it due to johnnys awful performance for the last few days. How am I suppose to even move to stevie if johnny cant even be online for a few hours a day.
joharjohar Posted April 1, 2016 Posted April 1, 2016 I'd recommend once he comes back online that you back everything up and move to Stevie. Stevie has much better performance and uptime than Johnny. Good idea! But Stevie has only PHP 5.3, but I need at least 5.4

joharjohar Posted April 1, 2016 Posted April 1, 2016 Try an older version of whatever program you're using. Most things have a version that runs on 5.3. Thanks for the advice, but my web site is completely self-made (php+mysql, not CMS). To function on PHP 5.3 it should be almost completely redone.
wolstech Posted April 1, 2016 Posted April 1, 2016 Yeah, my site is custom too (though mine is actually written for 5.2 being made in 2011). I will tell you though that you'd be better off spending the time redoing it than putting up with the terrible performance on Johnny. Even when not crashed, Johnny's uptime is <80%...and slow when he's up. Is there really that much in your site's code that can't run on 5.3? I've seen very few things made for 5.4 that couldn't be made to work with 5.3...
RatDb Posted April 1, 2016 Author Posted April 1, 2016 Still waiting on Johnnie so I can migrate my database.... Yep, I understand it's free and I can't really complain about that. But still waiting.
greendude120 Posted April 1, 2016 Posted April 1, 2016 You know that old saying: "You get what you pay for?" Well, HelioHost is changing that around. Our feature set beats out most professional web hosts, yet we come without a price tag. PHP, Python, Ruby on Rails... all for free. 5 days of johnny offline. Seems we are getting what we paid for. I don't see anything revolutionary here.
