To175 Posted June 4, 2014 Posted June 4, 2014 Hello,I have a minecraft server, I have bought Mecraft.fr for my website AND for the server. To connect the minecraft server with mecraft.fr I really need a SRV type of DNS !And I saw on the Cpanel there is only A and CNAME, please I need SRV I don't know where to set it...I need this configuration : _minecraft._tcp.mecraft.frSRV0 5 10252 minecraft05.omgserv.com Thanks !
wolstech Posted June 4, 2014 Posted June 4, 2014 Moved to customer service. I'm not sure we support SRV...if we do, an admin will have to create it for you. I can't see how such a record would be required to use a minecraft server anyway, though. You probably can use a CNAME to give the server a subdomain under your domain.
To175 Posted June 5, 2014 Author Posted June 5, 2014 Ok thanks,but I prefere to connect with mecraft.fr ! Nothing else such play.mecraft.fr .
wolstech Posted June 5, 2014 Posted June 5, 2014 Did you try to create a CNAME for play.mecraft.fr, pointed to Minecraft05.omgserv.com? If you know the IP of the game server, you might also want to try an A record pointed to the IP (I currently use an A for mine). After changes, wait several hours, then try to connect to the game server using play.mecraft.fr:10252.
To175 Posted June 5, 2014 Author Posted June 5, 2014 ... I really need SRV because I won't to use a sub-domain and port for my users, I really need they connect with just "mecraft.fr"
wolstech Posted June 5, 2014 Posted June 5, 2014 An admin will need to do it then if it's supported. Also, is your server just vanilla?
To175 Posted June 10, 2014 Author Posted June 10, 2014 Can I have some news please ? I really need a SRV :/thanks
wolstech Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 This support request is being escalated to our root admin.
Krydos Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 @wolstech, Yes we do support SRV records, but for whatever reason users cannot use their advanced dns editor to create the record themselves. Administrators can use WHM or SSH to create the record for them so feel free to escalate the post if any user needs it. @to175, your SRV record has been created. Interestingly, minecraft is one of the very few uses for SRV records: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SRV_record#Usage
To175 Posted June 11, 2014 Author Posted June 11, 2014 Thanks, it seems to be not effective yet, I have to wait...(this should be something like that)_minecraft._tcp.mecraft.fr IN SRV 0 5 10252 minecraft05.omgserv.com Thanks, it seems to be not effective yet, I have to wait...(this should be something like that)_minecraft._tcp.mecraft.fr IN SRV 0 5 10252 minecraft05.omgserv.com
To175 Posted June 12, 2014 Author Posted June 12, 2014 @Krydos or @wolstechDoesn't work ... with a "connection timed out" !
Krydos Posted June 13, 2014 Posted June 13, 2014 I took a closer look at this and noticed a typo in your original request. You said to set a SRV record for: _minecraft._tcp.mecraft.fr 14400 IN SRV 0 5 10252 minecraft05.omgserv.com. when it should really be this: _minecraft._tcp.mecraft.fr. 14400 IN SRV 0 5 10252 minecraft05.omgserv.com. to function correctly. Sorry for not double checking the data that I was copy/pasting the first time. You can also double check that the SRV record is set correctly yourself with a command like: # host -t SRV _minecraft._tcp.mecraft.fr _minecraft._tcp.mecraft.fr has SRV record 0 5 10252 minecraft05.omgserv.com.
