  1. Really? Two months? Those of us who are Stevie should get to Johnny as soon as possible. It's possible? Johnny too is also down now.... I was a johnny user then moved to stevie because of johnny`s failure... now, they give us limited ability to re-create our johnny accounts (few signup counts per day).... well... both servers are down now....
  2. Thanks... I was on Johnny and moved to Steive because of the previous hardware failure... now I see Steive is the one that`s down now, and I`ll wait till I can re-create johnny`s account.. Emmm... Johnny too is down now....
  3. It`s Perl.. One CGI- Perl script and the rest are softaculous installations... I remember that CPanel has a feature for importing from backup file (Import wizard)..However, if this feature is not available here, I`ll search for a step by step tutorial to be able to import them. Thanks
  4. Thanks for your replies.. - Can I use my backup file to restore site contents after account migration to stevie? (I`ve a tar.gz backup of whole site, with databases included). - Do cgi scripts work there? Thanks Ashraf
  5. Hi, when shall johnny server be online again? This month seems to be the third for it being offline. Thanks
  6. Hi, I want to change site domain from cairojpdept.heliohost.com to cairojpdeptlibrary.heliohost.com, as this will be changed to be a library site. If this is not possible I`ll request deletion of this site (after backing it up) to be able to create the new one (on same server, which is Jonny). Thanks Ashraf
  7. Thanks for your reply.. I checked them with web-based file manager and I can see them. It was found to be FTP problem. I`m using File Zilla and it doesn`t show these files.. Anyway, I`ll downlaod them using browser. Thanks again.. (Sorry for duplicate posts above, I had bad internet connection that day)

  11. Krydos, thanks for your reply. OJS and LImeSurvey are softaculous scripts.. too large in size.. I`ll uninstall LimeSurvey and look for another light-weight alternative. As for OJS, this is essential here (academic journal script). Good news backup files override disk space limitation, I`ll try it, but, as for report above ( and as for wolstech #2) it seems that CPanel automatically created a file backup file in local server after FTP failure here: "/home/ashrafjp/backup-1.22.2016_08-46-43_ashrafjp.tar.gz", a path/file that does not exist.. So, I think it would be better checking local backup process as well (on Johnny) Thanks again Ashraf Emm, just a question... I do this backup as I`ll un-install a larger script and replace it with a light weight one..but, as for described in CPanel, the main purpose of this feature is to move account to another server.. well, I see a line in the script saying "Copying Suspension Info (if needed)...Done"... What should this do with the new host?If a site is terminated here this shall result in terminating it at the hoster as well... I recommend disabling export of suspension data.. but, if for some reason, this is impossible, it`ll be nice to describe in FAQ how to remove this data from backup file. Another question, if I understand right, used backup files can`t be re-imported to same (this) server... can you confirm this? Thanks again Ashraf
  12. Thanks for your reply.. When I press backup buttom, I can export backup file only to Local/FTP/SCP.. I don`t get an ready-to- download export file, and I can`t use "local" option either as I don`t have much free space. As for your question, mentioned path/file does not exist, but there`s a new file in mentioned path "cpbackup-exclude.conf", that is empty, contains no lines if opened with NotePad++ or in browser. Note: I have only about 4 PHP scripts installed, 1 perl script under 2 MB, and under 2MB website files, softaculous backup files (less than 10MB), no uploaded files or other staff, and this resulted in 94% occupation of disk space (500MB).. so, I expect most people using this feature.. it`s strange no one used it... they either didn`t backup their sites or didn`t report this. (I must say that two scripts are too large in size, but I don`t expect other people having enough free space with 500MB unless they use very simple sites (just HTML files).
  13. Please check this report to locate the problem, as generated archive doesn`t exist in its location, that was specified before backup start (a remote FTP location, with path specified). 14. Hi, can I setup/ modify apache virtual host? I want to create a PURL system on my site (e-library) PURL is "Persistent URLs", URLs that do never change or expire, because they are, in fact, forward-URL from a specific static one to real URL.. if real URL is dead, I change it and the static one (the one for user) is the same. There are many ways to do this, most of them are paid, and a few of them are free, with some scripts and setup procedures.. One free way with easy setup requires setup/ modify apache virtual host, is this supported here? If not, I`ll use other available free ways, but they require more setup tasks. There are solutions with no setup at all (in cloud and easy), but are expensive. Thanks >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> More details (Just in case they are needed) However, I suspect that you may have meant Personalized URLs - often used in marketing campaigns for tracking and personalization. To create these types of PURLs (such as Username.Domain.com) you will need to setup wildcard subdomains in the DNS records (looks like *.domain.com) and then setup all subdomains to route to a specific PHP script for handling. This can be easily done using mod_rewrite in Apache via .htaccess. Note that most shared hosts do not allow wildcard subdomains. I don't know of any great tutorials so here's a quick write-up. Basic steps for setting up a Wildcard subdomain (assuming a LAMP stack): 1) DNS Record Add a DNS record, here are the settings: Type: "A" Record (More information on DNS record types) Name: *.DOMAINNAME.TLD Content: IP Address of your Server TTL: 300 (300 typically works well for me) 2) Setup/Modify the Apache Virtual Host On the ServerAlias config line add *.DOMAINNAAME.TLD. It should roughly look something like: Code: ServerName DOMAINNAME.TLD ServerAlias *.DOMAINNAME.TLD ... 3) Setup .htaccess to rewrite requests to your PHP file In your directory specified in the VirtualHost add a file called .htaccess. Mine looks something similar to: Code: RewriteEngine On RewriteBase / RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} -f [OR] RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} -d RewriteRule ^ - [L] RewriteRule . index.php [L] I'm basically telling all requests to this URL to go to index.php. You could also specify only patterns making your personlized URLs. 4) Write your Personalized PHP script Which ever file you redirect to in .htaccess will need to begin the process of analyzing the $_SERVER array to determine what to display to the user. Sorry, I`ll colse this topic.. This require paths (ebook files) to be available under same domain.. and here we have only 500MB.. I`ll need another hoster or a paid cloud solution for this. Thanks
  15. Thank you for your reply.. A 301 redirect looks good. Changing Softaculous installation folder (ie: "/home/username/softaculous" instead of home folder seems to be a good idea as well (to eliminate number of folders and items in home folder), but these means re-installation of script. So, 301 redirect is the best option. Thanks again
  16. Hi, I can see no option in Apache modules in control panel to change URL Mapping. As you know, home directory "/" is stuffed with many items (cgibin folder, softaculous scripts, etc....). So, I see it`s safer designating another folder (such as"user/home/s" and setting site home variable to that folder instead of "user/home". My idea is that, files, srcipts, folders created and transferred by FTP should go to that folder, so that it shall be safer to delete contents and upload newer ones without fearing of deleting other basic files by mistake. This is possible by an Apache feature called "URL Mapping", but I can`t see it here, so, my question is: Is this feature available here? IF yes, how to access it? If no, is there any other way to do this? Note1: The best known solution is to change home path variable.. and I know how to do this with Apache, but this feature "URL Mapping" does not seem to be available here. Is there any another way to change home path variable, that is supported here? Note2: I may set a 301 redirect that redirects "/home/user/public_html/s/index.html" to "/home/user/public_html/index.html", but I`d like to check there are no problems here. It is more familiar to redirect a home directory to another directory, and not vice-versa... Well, how about "CNAMEs"? I was creating CNAMEs to redirect longer to shorter paths (for example:mail.domain.com instead of mail.google.com/a/domain)...well, I want to verify there`s no problem using it to change paths as described above. Thank you.
  17. Thanks for your reply.. and for your test script.. I can wait Thank you. As for your question "Why does your script have to be in /home/ashrafjp/perl?" I replied to it before in the 1st paragraph, will copy it below: 「I found instructions in CPanel setting perl modules location to "/home/ashrafjp/perl". The folder includes a perl script (jcode.pl) as well as a CGI script (search.cgi) that have to exist together in the same folder.」 The problem is solved (if I use /home/cgi-bin),but I don`t know why such instruction exist in CPanel.. may be for another server.. Thank you.
  18. Hi, I can use the normal "/cgi-bin", but when I use "/scgi-bin" after enabling SCgiwrap I get the following error: "scgiwrap: Caller must be the nobody user" cairojpdept.heliohost.org/cgi-bin/goout/sm/search.cgi ok cairojpdept.heliohost.org/scgi-bin/goout/sm/search.cgi error "scgiwrap: Caller must be the nobody user"
  19. I see the topic is marked as "solved".. but the second problem persists... however, I`ll open a new topic for it. Thanks
  20. I found instructions in CPanel setting perl modules location to "/home/ashrafjp/perl". The folder includes a perl script (jcode.pl) as well as a CGI script (search.cgi) that have to exist together in the same folder. However, I put them in "/home/ashrafjp/public_html/cgi-bin/goout" per your instruction, and it works. -SCgiwrap problem persists,it`s safer, but if it`s a complicated problem, the normal method (above) is ok. Thank you very much. If you want to test the script, to check SCgiwrap, so, please use the following URL: http://cairojpdept.h...t/sm/search.cgi If I try this one: http://cairojpdept.h...t/sm/search.cgi I`ll get the following error: "scgiwrap: Caller must be the nobody user" Thank you
  21. Hi, let`s say I uploaded a folder "sm" in the directory "/home/ashrafjp/perl", and let`s say it consists of the following two files "jcode.pl","search.cgi", as described below: /home/ashrafjp/perl/sm/ jcode.pl search.cgi well, what should the web path for these files (for front-end user) be? I tried some web paths, but they didn`t work... Also, I tried enabling CGI Wrap feature and adding a copy into "/home/ashrafjp/public_html/scgi-bin" and mounted the path to: "http://cairojpdept.heliohost.org/scgi-bin/" then, typed in normal file path, which was correct BUT with the following error: "scgiwrap: Caller must be the nobody user" 1- What`s the correct path for files in "/home/perl"? 2- How can I solve mentioned error message? (cgi file permission is 755, pl file permission is 644" Note1: The path I need is to .cgi file, NOT to .pl file Note2: First line of .pl file is "#!/usr/bin/perlml" Thanks
  22. Thanks for your reply! I was having just CPanel, but the site started as well a few hours ago
  23. Hi, I have been waiting approx. 6 days for my site to launch, on "Johnny" server. So, I created a tiny app (basically based on .bat) that checkes the site every 2 hours.. I just want to confirm this should not cause large consumption of resources on your side. Thanks!
