  1. http://thefawkes.co.uk/cgi-sys/defaultwebpage.cgi All I have done is uploaded a new website to this domain, which was working until I uploaded and extracted the files. Username: stgeorge Server: stevie Original signup sub domain: stgeorge.heliohost.org AddOn Domain: As Above Is there a reason why whenever I seem to make changes to a site the account gets queued?
  2. I have a question that does not really apply to the hosting as I realize that this is free hosting with few staff and although a time consuming commitment by the said staff, the server and the package may be the problem. I have been trying to put websites on this hosting for over a year now, but do not implement the switch more often than not due to Downtime. I was wondering whether this will ever improve. I run PopPeeper which is an e-mail application that checks e-mail accounts without having a full blown e-mail application constantly open using resources. On this e-mail application I can get updated on over 40 e-mail accounts I run for different purposes. One of the uses I find PopPeeper useful for is to check on the uptime of Hosting accounts. I for example have a Heliohost sign-up sub domain e-mail account which when PopPeeper checks the new mail actually informs me indirectly if the Server is up. Every day the HelioHost server is down for various lengths of time. If I was to run a top level domain on this Server I reckon it will be online for a max of 70% of the time. Obviously I do not notice what is happening when I am asleep but when awake I am online 24/7 GMT. My question is this: Why does HelioHost have such difficulty staying online?
  3. It does take like it seems forever to get an AddOn Domain on this host. I do not know for sure but I suspect vigilance is in the offing. Normally cPanel will accept your Domain if the DNS has been altered by your Registrar. So although your Domain will points to this host, I suspect there is a little checking things out first when someone gets round to it. So do not hold your breath. Get a new host!
  4. A first for me. Never seen that error message before. Thanks djbob
  5. I had to switch the DNS to another server. I would like to know what this error is before trying to switch it back to heliohost.
  6. They will show up in your public_html directory even if you get an error with the Add On domain wrapper. This does not mean they will resolve. As I have already mentioned I have done a domain lookup and the site I changed the DNS on was showing yesterday as: ns1.heliohost.org ns2.heliohost.org My Registrar changed the DNS settings within the hour. Normally when I move Servers I get the new DNS resolved in less than two hours. I realize that it is said that you should wait for up to 48 hours but I have never experienced it. I move DNS on a regular basis and cannot remember waiting more than 2 hours for a domain to resolve. This domain I am trying to move has taken over 24 hours. So I am curious to know why.
  7. oh well tried that post. nothing doing as of yet. seems to be a common problem though. site down for 24 hours now.
  8. I have tried to Add On a Domain but get the following error message: Domain lookup shows that the above domain is pointing to nameservers: 1. Username: stgeorge 2. Default domain name: stgeorge.heliohost.org 3. Addon domain name: winfoes.co.uk
  9. I have tried to Add On a Domain but get the following error message: Domain lookup shows that the above domain is pointing to nameservers: 1. Username: stgeorge 2. Default domain name: stgeorge.heliohost.org 3. Addon domain name: winfoes.co.uk
  10. So here we go again. Top level AddOn domain down but public_html sign up domain up. No FTP or cPanel.
  11. I cannot login to cPanel with the URL: http://stgeorge.heliohost.org/cpanel Site not Found: http://stgeorge.heliohost.org I CAN login to cPanel with my Username and password through the URL: http://www.heliohost.org/home/ So what is occurring here. Whenever I have had an e-mail reminder to login to cPanel I have done so.
  12. Can someone tell me if there is a problem with the heliohost server. I can access cPanel through: http://www.heliohost.org/home/ the login at the foot of the page. Cannot access cPanel through: http://stgeorge.heliohost.org/cpanel and Site is down. stgeorge.heliohost.org heritagebuildingandrestoration.co.uk (parked domain)
  13. I am accessing your site manustays. It seems that this may be an IP blocking issue as when I work on my site I cannot access it sometimes. Have you tried using a proxy? try this: http://goodbyeip.com/ or this: http://thenetweb.co.uk/tnw-webmaster/tnw-proxy I normally password protect thenetweb proxy but have removed it for you.
  14. I can access your site. It is only showing files and two directories: images tdf I have uploaded a screenshot. I am in the UK. There basically is no website as such there. No css or files that would form a website. Rename your index.php to index1.php or test.php. Enter the above php file into your browser after the domain for viewing. With any text editor insert: <html><body bgcolor="#FFFFFF"></body></html> save as index.html This way all any prying eyes will see is a white page.
  15. You are using quiet alot of ajax, js and it seems flash content. Is this a free third party template? They are often crammed with unnecessary coding and require trimming down. Often free 3rd party templates are not well thought out and are produced without the trimming for effect. I do use 3rd Party Joomla templates occasionally but rip the guts out of them to make them leaner. It is loaded with scripts. Not a good idea for a home page. It does load reasonably from the UK though.
  16. All you need to do is delete via ftp the cgi bin in the domain folders. Move all your files relating to the domains into the domain folders via FTP drag and drop. Re-name the folders to whatever you want. Adjust your config files to the correct paths.
  17. I must admit I never thought to try the file extensions. Thanks manustays, it will be useful if we can access the Forum during downtime to find out what is happening. I will try it next time these problems arise, so if you are correct the link: http://www.helionet.org/index/index.php? should work to access the Forum. No good whatsoever for people who are trying to access your site though! But a good solution to access the Forum.
  18. Over the past few weeks this has been happening on a regular basis to me also. My account is regularly being re-queued. I cannot access my website, (account is re-queued.) I cannot access cPanel, (I get cPanel installation page). I cannot connect to my Account, (iPanel). I cannot access the Server via FTP. I cannot get the HelioHost home page, (cPanel installation page). I cannot access the Forum to find out what is going on as the Server is down, (the Forum is actually hosted on the same Server would you believe?). The thing is I often do not find out when this is happening because I use PopPeeper to check the Server status via e-mail, but it will connect to the e-mail account suggesting that HelioHost has found a way around negative downtime by having the Server up, but the sites hosted on it down. I keep getting e-mails informing me that my account is about to expire and to login to cPanel, but I have rather given up on working on the site hosted here until the issues are resolved permanently. We are not talking an hour or so, it is normally 6 hours minimum plus. I logged into cPanel Saturday, shortly after all the above errors occured, while I was logged into cPanel to do some work on the site the broken connection occured and it is only yesterday that things seemed back to normal. Downtime seems to have been about three days. So does anyone have an answer I wonder?
  19. Thanks for the reply Wizard. I know my post shows my frustration, but it is good to at least get a reply which enables re-assurance. I was wondering what was going on as this has only been happening over the last three weeks or so. Luckily the site is basically automated enough now and only needs minor tweaks or additions so I have little to do. Just waiting for User migration from one Section of the site to another Domain so that I can enable another section on the existing Domain. As for your Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy signature, I felt deja vu, as I usually use that as a sign off when I doubt if I'll ever return.
  20. Domain: stgeorge.heliohost.org Server Name: stevie Installation: Joomla 1.5 I have recently been trying to work on a website but keep having to give up as the FTP is slow, irratic and is not quite sure if it wants to connect or not. Whenever I try to upload files I keep getting 500 Internal Server errors in one browser, but connection in another. There are no indications in the error logs as to the problem. All we are talking about here is an image upload or maybe a css file, not an htaccess or php.ini file. Just basic files. It seems that after upload the files are not recognised by the Server although they show in the FTP Client, (FileZilla, Core FTP and WinSCP). After working on the site I quite often get locked out and sometimes the site just goes down. Also I have recently noticed that the Server keeps going down and I get a page stating that my account is waiting to be processed, although I can log into cPanel. It seems I am always trying to find a workaround for something on HelioHost that will crash, disconnect or otherwise mess with the browser. I keep having to close down browsers, reboot, clean the system, clear cookies, delete cache, flush xp dns and so on. This is all just for a few files I may have uploaded. I use 14 different browsers and I keep having to close one down, open another and so on. Is HelioHost undergoing some sort of change or is it simply that the Servers are not up to the Job and are overwhelmed with websites. My SQL can be a little erratic too. The website itself seems to have little downtime (or at least I think so), it is simply when I start working on it all the above problems arise. Anyone else experiencing similar problems?
  21. Yes they are registered users, however the problem I foresee is that if people are like me and delete or report spam based on subject line or sender it is easy to miss something you have signed up for. In the UK we do not have quite the same rules as the US when it comes to unsolicited mail. I use the term unsolicited because I have in the past reported spam when I shouldn't have, (by mistake). Since most of the subscribers are UK based I suppose I should check on the UK based system for SPAM. Unless of course someone out there knows a few simple guidelines within the UK on this.
  22. Thanks for the explanation of the difference between Parked and Add on Domains byron I have been trying to get my head round the difference. My question is this: If I wish to move a website to this host but the DNS is pointing to the existing site and I cannot get either Parked or Add on Domain set up until I point the DNS to this domain. My problem with this is I need to get the files transfered to this domain prior to switching the DNS. Would creating a folder in public_html with the existing site name work so that I can upload the files to that folder and config the configuration to the imported database which would then give me a smooth switch over, or do I simply have to wait until the DNS switches then deal with everything meaning the site will be down for an hour or so?
  23. I have read the HelioHost Terms and agree that it is in everyone's interest that SPAM should not be allowed from the HelioHost Servers. I have a dilema though. I wish to send a Newsletters to up to two hundred registered users. I am wondering if this is possible on HelioHost? I can obviously set sending limits on amount, say 50 and put in a time lapse say 15 seconds between mail shots. I would be using ccNewsletter which is a Joomla Component Extension. Below is the pertinent extract from Terms: The other thing that comes to mind is that the site uses uddeIM to send messages within the site but also has iframes to wrap AIM, MSN Live, Google and Yahoo Messengers for people to use whilst within the site. I am wondering if any of these are going to cause problems also? Any help would be appreciated as I wish to clarify the points above prior to putting anything into full use.
  24. I had the same problem with login so tried your link 'byron' and it worked. The problem I have seems a little more concerning as it relates to mySQL and it seems I am not the only one. I posted it prior to reading this post here: http://www.helionet.org/index/index.php?sh...ic=4672&hl= My SQL was fine until the cPanel white screening occurred. Is there some sort of maintenance work going on as nobody has responded to the post above? Also a little point on Avatars for this Forum. Cannot upload one even though I am within limits. I have got into cPanel as already mentioned but cannot find where to post a Support Ticket. I thought it a good idea to post one as other people appear to have mySQL issues and the solution on the error mentioned in the above post link is to clear temp mysql files. Quick Edit. I am not sure if someone read this and and cleared temp, (unlikely as only posted 20 mins ago), but I had imported some tables from another installation into a fresh installation on this Server and reading the log error file in cPanel I thought I would clear all old references to Menu Links from the old database that were imported. Well that seems to have solved the problem. I deleted anything related to anything not installed in this installation, cleared trash, cleared cache. Joomla Menu system has been a thorn in my side and I suppose it always will be. It quite simply controls everything. In one installation I have I have deleted all content menu modules and made my own menus, (custom mods), hard linked to content, guess what, I spend so little time adding content to menus I have a life.
