  1. OK nevermind, I'm up now. Yay.
  2. Personally, I think QBASIC is a good place to start, because it's easy and it gives you the idea of variables, loops, etc. without all the extra stuff (and it gives you the really old computer feel ). After that, C++ is pretty easy to pick up. You already have the basics. You could do C instead, I think that would actually be harder for new programmers. ...and learn somewhere at least how to write assembly, if not how to translate it into machine code. Knowing what goes on under the hood intrinsically helps you program better.
  3. Being a red-butted American and something of a hick myself, I feel I should toss in my two cents in a respectful sort of way. First of all, I respect how other people feel about guns and, having talked to great many people regarding them, I think I can understand a little why most people feel the way they do about them. Me, I grew up in a kinda small, farming-type community, with tractors, corn, big back yards, woods, deer, hunting, and lots of guns. And true, there's those people who talk about waving guns around and throwing dynamite in lakes to fish like you see in movies, but that *rarely* (I say rarely 'cause I've never seen it and never hear of anywhere near my town doing it, but I can't prove it doesn't exist) happens. Anywho, I've been toting guns around since I was little, and the first thing I learned about them was safety. So everyone around my town is comfortable with firearms and use them for sport and whatnot, there being too little crime to require them for self-defense. Very rarely is anyone shot by accident (like once every 10 years, and not fatally, when they are mistaken for a deer). That's why I like guns, I've been around them my whole life and they're fun. Apart from that, being American, I'm pretty entrenched in the idea that I can have a gun, and you can't take it away, 'cause it's my right. I also think they cause less crime, but that may or may not be true; I've had a stats class, and statistics tell you anything you want them to, believe me. Love and hearts for everyone!
  4. PS3 has amazing hardware. It is shiny. It has an IBM Cell Processor (9 cores, great for gfx!). It has KillZone 2 (ok, it has some good games too). It's expensive (though prices dropped recently). In a month or so it might be feasible. Meanwhile, might as well stick to Wii for all the amazing Wii games and 360 for Halo. PS3 is the future, but it's not here yet! Personally I'm an N64 fan anyway. Go Sony!!!!11one: [post= ] [/post]
  5. I'm on 24-7, even when I'm not there. Sooo..... 168ish hours a week?
  6. Never been a big fan of the global warming scare. I figure, what's going to happen'll happen, and people will adapt. Anyway, there's scientists all over the world claiming a bunch of different things in this regard, many with very conclusive proof and great assurity that what they say is as good as law (*ahem* ...Al Gore...). I don't mind being conscious of what might happen, but I think it's very silly to spend billions of dollars on something that, in perspective, we really have absolutely no idea about. However, I do get peeved when certain people who almost got in the position of great trust and reverence that is the President of the United States (ha! trust and reverence, what a joke ... or is it?) win a Nobel Prize for this kind of thing. (Quick, get off the politics, that's in a different forum!) Anyway, yes, I think being mindful of our environment and atmosphere and whatnot is a good thing, but it's a tad proactive to try and force everyone to be environmentally friendly (or "green"), when we don't even have a good grasp on the situation.
  7. Which processor is "the best?" For all intents and purposes, as has been posted above, Intel blows the competition away with its Core 2 line. But the "best" really depends on how much you know about this stuff and how much you're willing to pay. For instance, you can get an amazing chip and and accidentally buy a shoddy motherboard, and you won't get anywhere near full performance. You could get a AMD Athlon X2 Black Edition (unlocked multiplier on the 5000+) for a couple bones and overclock the bejeezus out of it. Also, there are other processors out there, such as the UltraSPARC T2 (8 cores), and Intel is working on the Polaris (80 cores). And there's more amazing stuff out there us mere citizens don't even know about.
  8. I agree with Kyougi. I think Windows server is more useful for large-scale corporations and less so for basic home use. Linux is a much cheaper and (to me) sensible solution.
  9. I prefer FireFox. IE is too full of securities holes and silliness, and Safari ... well, IIS and Safari don't seem get too along well for me, and ASP.NET being somewhat prevalent, I feel Safari stinks.
  10. I'm a fan of the big three C's. I have experience in VB, ASP, PHP, Java, Perl, a little Python, and stuff like that. Oh yeah, don't forget QBASIC. In fact, I just got off an 8-hour or so C/C++ spree on compilers and remain too wired from energy drinks to go to bed. I like workin' on games, web stuff when I have time (almost never), random tools, and, most recently, compilers.
  11. Hey, I am teh silly (actually, my name's Joe). I like computers a bit (more specifically games, most hardware aspects and most software aspect, including game/application/web programming). I also enjoy soccer, hockey, basketball, and other things that make me get up off my taffy-arse and get a least a little sun, that I remain a tad bit tanner than my friend the albino.
  12. Hey, alright, it's my first post. I guess I'll get right to the point. I applied for the free "Ads Standard" plan a couple o' days ago with the user name joephill and domain name joephill.heliohost.org. Since I'm none too sure how this works, being teh silly and all ( ), I was wondering if someone wouldn't mind enlightening me as to how the process goes for being approved for web hosting. Thanks guys.
