RAWR RAWR RAWR RAWR RAWR RAWR RAWR. We have angry people in this forum (I can't believe I never looked here before, it's amazing. Since people are making heated-looking posts and heavy accusations (no names, *ahem* Joe), allow me to rebut. About this post that you posted .... forever and ever ago. You use common sense to see how things around you interact and visualize the "bigger picture," as it were. Therefor you are not influence by scientists, right? That's aweso-- oh, wait. That's actually nowhere near what's going on. Your "common sense" is terribly different from the "common sense" back many years when the Vatican was sending bands of maurading friars to force Galileo to close shop (ironically, the Church supported Copernicus). Your common sense is intrinsically influenced by what you're taught when you're a young 'un, as well as what you learn in the present. So you say, well gee whiz, guys, you're so stupid. Of COURSE the Earth is round! But had you said this a century ago or so, you'd be the idiot. Then you went and got all learnt up and figured everyone over the course of history was stupid. But were they? The Earth looked pretty darn flat back then. If it were so apparent from the naked eye that the Earth was NOT round, I doubt people would have said "Well, if you say so..." to the Church all those years. ...and all those years before the existence of the Church.... I probably would have thought it was pretty flat (maybe I'm stupid ). And besides, the Earth's an obloid sphereoid. And why does it even matter? If these people bug you so much, ignore them. They are teh silly, like me.

What these guys are sayin' is true ... how very silly of you. However, they are also ripping on Dell, one of the *better* brands for a laptop (albeit, mostly due to the amazing warranties, if you know how to deal with them). This is also silly. Dell is actually a fairly good laptop brand (their desktops are shoddy, though). And Ubuntu? Since you're trying to run Gutsy, it should just ... work. Here's some n00by questions in response to teh n00bie question: If you downloaded the iso, did you burn it to a disc correctly? Depending on the iso you have, you might have to actually boot to the operating system and install from the icon on the desktop. Do you have a Live disc? Did you put the disk in and boot from CD/DVD? Was the computer unplugged? Are you teh silly (I know I am! )? Are you sick of being n00bed at (I know I would be)? Too bad, my class is far to boring for me to be doing anything else right now. Please note that the above about Dell is merely my opinion, having spent a fair amount of years past fixing people's broken stuff. You have to ***** at Dell, but you get your stuff, stat.

End of the world? That would be unfortunate. But I'm not going on anything the Mayans said. They were much less cooler than the Aztecs, who got annihilated by a few Spaniards and some Tlaxcalans. I mean, what, around 400 Spaniards? The Spanish were silly. Could have been done by 200 Germans. 50 Prussians. Anyway, so the Mayans are obviously not a trusty source of information regarding the future. If I'm wrong, feel free to mock me. In fact, feel free to bet me any sum on this matter. I'll take it!

...or has it been disproved? Dundundun! (...actually, it hasn't; all scientific theories are pretty much just that: theories. Nobody actually knows. Besides, this seven days thing might be scientifically true anyway. Consider the Earth being formed. Perhaps it was formed very far away from the sun, way out where days could have been millions of years (our years today), and it got pulled into the sun's gravitational field as it passed. What if this process occurred over several million or billion CURRENT years - which is feasible - but since as the Earth gets closer to the sun the days get shorter... Ruh roh! The Earth just perfectly legitimately got formed in seven days in a scientific sense! ) And please keep in mind that when you look at science at a point in time, as time goes to infinity (a little extreme? Well, yes, but it's just a point), the probability of the total correctness of a given theory of the science at that time appears to go to a value significantly less than 1. ...And I agree that sometimes the Bible sounds silly, but could you define "dumb?" Given the number of people who try to interpret the Bible, I'm quite sure not all of them are dumb (myself excluded, of course ).

BASIC is pretty much as basic as it gets. And VB provides instant gratification with a more graphiky interface than a console. Still, if you want them to get a little background, teach 'em QBASIC.

I believe dual-cores overclock better than their quad-core counterparts at this point (which doesn't necessarily mean they are better - it depends what you want to use them for). Also, yes, performance depends largely on the task being performed.

Most of my graphiky programs are done using DirectX (9c) or OpenGl. By the way, have you ever tried Ogre?

I actually like Google quite a bit. ...though I think you can count youtube as cheating. After all, Google prides themselves on being the "most intelligent" web people out there. Whether or not Google is evil, it's still a great place to get a job. Have you seen how those guys get to work? Sweeeeet.

I would say both have their place, though logically, sports seem to be a lot more important physically. But look at it this way: if you play more sports, you get more fit, and you live longer, so you can play more video games. Everybody wins.

Nah, they should probably keep the things. They're one of the main things you use to prove to colleges how smart you are to get in free. If we didn't have those, college entrances and whatnot would be based more on grade point and activities in high school. And let's face it, if you're in high school and posting in a lot of forums and making websites, you probably don't have a lot of activities to put down on a college application, so you'd want the SATs to stay. An interesting note on what some people feel about the SAT and standardized tests... Recently I came across a flyer for the "Defend Affirmative Action Party," which is some group of college kids. They want to eliminate the SAT/ACT because of its distinct racial bias. This made me chuckle. (By the way, this is the quote: "Distinct Racial Bias: In 1997, black students from families with incomes between $80,000 and $100,000 did in fact score lower on the SAT than did white students from families with incomes of less than $10,000," which is a random fact with absolutely no bearing to what they were trying to say and actually detracted from their argument. They were very silly.)

It makes me sad that there is not a whole lot of art posted here. Oh well, here is a picture. Mayhap I will draw some pictures and put an artsy-type page on my website.

Well, what can I say...let's see. I've had experience in both php and aspx (asp 2.0 in .net). Here's what I think: I like both, but I like aspx a tad more, even though it can be a GIANT pain the rear. I think (well, I can) do a lot more with it. However php is much easier to learn and use. I like to php things in notepad. This is just about impossible with aspx, unless you are crazy.

Actually, I believe the use of inline PHP is more efficient than just having <?php ...entire file... ?> and displaying text with echos. Inline tags should be fine. Also, using the "/" at the end of inputs is fine as well. It's the xhtml standard to terminate unpaired tags with "/". Try running your html through the W3C validator sometime, it's fun. I ran the one fragment of php I still have that I wrote long, long ago through it and it found something like 20 or 30 errors.

Having a flash banner, nav, individual buttons, etc is actually quite nice ... as long as you can feasibly navigate the site without them. Also, keep in mind some people *still* don't have flash and don't want to download it. Flash is very useful for movies and whatnot, but once again, think of who you are catering to. Flash is can be very nice when used tastefully and in moderation, but personally, I won't take the time to develop flash-based web apps unless I get paid a ton for it.

And it pretty much is celebrated by all, in a sense (at least in the United States - national holiday). And the Nazi part is pretty funny. I'm Christian, and don't mind being laughed at for it (*ahem* awsomejoe ); Christians have been persecuted for centuries (and did a little persecution themselves). I believe in God and I don't care who knows it or how much they call me silly, 'cause I already know I am teh silly!

teh silly site I was applying for a job a few days ago. Someone mentioned they wanted to see a "portfolio" of websites. By the time I got the hosting and was able to give them a link, I already had the job. Anyway, I technically don't need it and don't have time to do any work (and I lost all my projects)... but now I want to php around some. So there you have it. (and Link #2 is probably not coming anytime soon, I have to write it first! )
