They would remain. I believe it just downloads the mail from our server and dumps it into your inbox, so appearance wise it'd look the same as a forwarder. The only difference is that it may take longer to receive the mail (I believe Gmail checks POP3 mailboxes on a schedule, so you won't see the mail until the next time it checks once its on our server).
I personally haven't used the function in a few years now, but previously used it without issue with a random email address I had from my college days.
