HelioHost Posted February 7, 2025 Posted February 7, 2025 VPS number: 111, VPS ID: 671i see /etc/nginx typically i would do ./sites-enabled (as I believe that is the recommended nginx config), where the /etc/nginx/sites-available are where you basically store your "main config" files, and either link to them or dont. So, eg. let's say I have a server on 192.168.20.183 many containers therein correspond to the /etc/nginx/sites-enabled I realize this is unorthodox, but it works for my dev setup. so, for that one "weird 'super-parent' directory" wd2tb01, i have this slightly diff .conf file: where the root /media/wd2tb01/var/www while the others correspond to the canonical names, as correspond, such as server_name "zjvuypqa" root /media/wd2tb01/var/www/zjvuypqa server_name "bunsen" root /media/wd2tb01/var/www/bunsen and so on. (the browser example, and .conf example for wd2tb01 is different because... i dunno. brain damange. but you get the idea. now i forget whats going on. but it has something to do with me needing to know something about fwhere to put those paths. for the individual sites. obviously, it's not going to be that setup. but perhaps more like this, to get started: when i was w/ wso.net, i think i had a separate cPanel for most of those domains. he was grumpy about that. but you've got to understand, i came back to this after 5 years of talking to very unhappy, privileged, i can't rem the word, but talking about about nothing but student loans all day. oh they don't like that! f' em. something about trying to get your advice about my next step. I suppose I could just make a dir and SSH some stuff. but, suspect there is a more efficient, recommended way to go about it. thank you kindly, and gratefully. Krydos Posted February 7, 2025 Posted February 7, 2025 I recommend using Hestia to add the domain, and then put the files in /home/admin/web/<domain>/public_html/
HelioHost Posted February 13, 2025 Author Posted February 13, 2025 i can't remember how to start off w/ Hestia (as it seems [and i figured it would] my previous acct logins etc are no longer valid). For Hstia. i can get into the other part, as i showed earlier today.l Once i get in there i should be good! sorry about this! i searched my gmail for :8083 and this is the oldest one! i'll keep looking. oh. wait. ..windows did the "someone may be spoofing man-in-the-middle" ssh disallow thing. i haven't confirmed i can SSH yet. but i should be good to go. i'll do that meanwhile. please send the "hestia" step one kind of instructions. thank you! resuming this project now. gonna try to finish by midnight -- at least w/ the ... you know. initial setups. some days are better than others. i'm gonna draw out a plan and try to hit this like a proper project. as it was, all that had developed over years. i'm sure you understand. thank you! :) On Fri, Feb 7, 2025 at 1:47?AM HelioHost Support wrote: > I recommend using Hestia to add the domain, and then put the files > in /home/admin/web//public_html/ > > You may view the status of your ticket by visiting: > > https://helionet.org/index/index.php?showtopic=63546 > > Thank you, > HelioHost support > https://heliohost.org/ > https://helionet.org/ > >
Krydos Posted February 14, 2025 Posted February 14, 2025 In order to login to Hestia first login to SSH using Username: jsabarese Password: <same as the dashboard> and then through SSH run sudo /usr/local/hestia/bin/v-change-user-password admin NEWPASSWORD And then go to the Hestia login page at https://vps111.heliohost.us:8083/login/ Username: admin Password: <what you entered in SSH>

I actually had remembered that little line of code and did use that. thank you! (not remembered by heart of course!) anyway. i'm thinking something must be misconfigured. this is what was happening earlier when I requested you reset it. but maybe it's not something i've done. This time, i just went into Hesti, and using the Singular user, "admin", which I created (after using the command line code above). all good. next step. created / added the domain names. The adds the DNS records "automatically" as far as I can tell (which is as expected). after all of the domains were added, I went into SSH and using curl, i did the following (because I know what this stuff does. it's basic stuff. i figure, if this doesn't work, then something is wrong. it shuldn't need a control panel to confure this. as long as the apache files are there, etc. Which I guess is what i'm expecting has happened (otherwise, what is Hestia for, right? lol) ANyway, so i get into that directory, and do this: ``` # delete deployment dir if exists: sudo rm -r /home/admin/web/whatsonyourbrain.com/public_html/wp --verbose # create deployment dir sudo mkdir -p /home/admin/web/whatsonyourbrain.com/public_html/wp --verbose # set permissions sudo chown www-data -R /home/admin/web/whatsonyourbrain.com/public_html/wp --verbose sudo chmod 755 -R /home/admin/web/whatsonyourbrain.com/public_html/wp --verbose # cd to deployment dir cd /home/admin/web/whatsonyourbrain.com/public_html/wp # get latest from source and extract to deployment dir curl https://wordpress.org/latest.tar.gz | sudo -u www-data tar zx -C /home/admin/web/whatsonyourbrain.com/public_html/wp cd .. sudo chown $USER:www-data -v -R ./wp `` [image: msedge_4lBzQ7tXiW.png] i didn't really do much at all since requesting the rest. so not sure what's going on TBH. i feel like this is the same as it was yesterday. I posted that thing in the forum i know about i thought i knew why it was happening. and damnit if i can NOT remember what my solution was. and ran off doing errands. i'm a real jerk! haha. oh well. i was probably thinking that i messed up the DNS for the vps111.heliohost.us -- so if that wasn't working, then none of them on that server would work. but ... again. i lost my train of thought too quickly. at this point, i'm stumped. You tell me what to do. :D i'll listen this time. sorry for the extra trouble On Thu, Feb 13, 2025 at 8:06?PM HelioHost Support wrote: > In order to login to Hestia first login to SSH using Username: jsabarese > Password: and then through SSH run sudo > /usr/local/hestia/bin/v-change-user-password admin NEWPASSWORD And then go > to the Hestia login page at https://vps111.heliohost.us:8083/login/ > Username: admin Password: > > You may view the status of your ticket by visiting: > > https://helionet.org/index/index.php?showtopic=63546 > > Thank you, > HelioHost support > https://heliohost.org/ > https://helionet.org/ > >
Krydos Posted February 14, 2025 Posted February 14, 2025 Since the webpage is timing out, I'm wondering if you got blocked in the firewall? There were about 20 IPs that were blocked, and I'm not sure which one is yours so I just deleted them all and restarted the firewall. Are you able to see your websites now?
HelioHost Posted February 16, 2025 Author Posted February 16, 2025 No, I am not able to see them. hmm.. what sort of diagnostics can i run? Regarding my IP: I have T-Mobile 5G Home, which is essentially a wi-fi hotspot. So the IP address changes, and the location data shows Philadelphia, but i'm actually in State College, PA (PSU). I've never had issues like that though. Some things disallow because it thinks i'm on a VPN, but it's pretty rare. thank you. i just started working on this again since Fri. HelioHost Posted February 16, 2025 Author Posted February 16, 2025 Hi there. I can't determine what's causing this. I experience the error when attempting to enable SSL for the domain name, statecollegeguitarlessons.com screenshot attached. [image: image.png] Meanwhile, i'll move on to another domain. :) On Fri, Feb 14, 2025 at 2:31?PM HelioHost Support wrote: > Since the webpage is timing out, I'm wondering if you got blocked in the > firewall? Krydos Posted February 16, 2025 Posted February 16, 2025 It looks like that domain may be expired? https://dnschecker.org/#NS/statecollegeguitarlessons.com
HelioHost Posted February 16, 2025 Author Posted February 16, 2025 oh no. i'm suddenly confused again. how can that be? I know i have the. whatsonyourbrain.com i think was needing to be renewed. i thought i discussed this while onboarding. it's very important that i don't lose those domain names. HelioHost Posted February 16, 2025 Author Posted February 16, 2025 i can't remember how to read that stuff at the moment. i may pause my work on this momentarily. i'm all freaked out and confused now and have to trace my steps or something. thank you. Krydos Posted February 16, 2025 Posted February 16, 2025 Oh, actually it says it expires on 2026-02-12 https://who.is/whois/statecollegeguitarlessons.com You just need to set your nameservers to ns1.heliohost.org and ns2.heliohost.org again.
Krydos Posted February 16, 2025 Posted February 16, 2025 The reason I thought maybe it expired is because your nameservers are set to pendingdelegation.namesrs.com and inactive.namesrs.com
