HelioHost Posted August 29, 2021 Posted August 29, 2021 Tomorrow, 2021-08-30 starting around 7pm UTC, we will be doing maintenance at our data center which will cause downtime on all of our servers and VPS, including our main website heliohost.org and our forums helionet.org. We estimate the downtime will probably be around an hour for each server as long as we don't run into any significant issues. Our last fundraiser was successful and we are now installing the hardware that we raised the money to purchase. This will increase the performance of Johnny, Ricky, and all of our VPS as well. The fundraiser also paid for network hardware speed improvements which were completed earlier which allows for faster downloads from all of our servers and mitigates the effects of ddos attacks. We will also be installing some hard drives for a new server named Morty that we hope to release in a few months after we finish rebuilding Tommy, Ricky, and Johnny with Plesk. 2 3
balloons Posted August 31, 2021 Posted August 31, 2021 All servers experienced a temporary down. Many servers booted up after a few hours. According to the information obtained from Discord. With the exception of some VPS, the server is currently up and running. Individual VPSs need to be booted in stages. https://discord.com/channels/398197622168616962/398538798994161664/882152799591333888 Storage separation between Johnny and VPS is a work to be done, so Johnny and VPS may still experience an outage. You will see the official news when the maintenance work is complete. badrihippo Posted August 31, 2021 Posted August 31, 2021 Awesome! Looking forward to Plesk and Morty too (well I'm not going to use them since I have a VPS, but still feels good to know it's there 😁). My VPS had become pretty slow during March/April but now it's back to normal, so I guess this reinforces that stable feeling. My team has been hosting our main website on Netlify till now, and we're planning to switch to a full-fledged Ghost on a HelioHost VPS, so the timing couldn't have been better 🙃 Re the reboot: nginx and some other services failed to start for some reason, so I had to SSH in manually and start them. In case anyone else ran into problems, the solution is to run `systemctl status service` and then `systemctl restart service` where service is the service name, such an nginx (web server), mysql (database), postfix (email sender), dovecot (email receiver), etc. Of course Hestia might handle all this by itself; I'm not sure (I use YunoHost) 🙂 1
allu62 Posted August 31, 2021 Posted August 31, 2021 Hestia is not perfect. Failed to startup after auto-update to latest version (website continuing running). This morning (before reading this post), I noticed my website being down. On the other hand, Hestia was accessible again. As on your VPS some servers (nginx, apache, php and spamassassin) were down. Restart via Hest Control Panel ok... A problem with my site however: so slow, that you nearly can call it non-responsive (some php scripts are even timed out). Someone has an idea, what the reason for this might be?
Krydos Posted September 1, 2021 Posted September 1, 2021 It causes a lot of load to boot up all of the VPS. Sparkie's cpu was pegged at 100% for like 3 hours last night powering on all the VPS so it's expected that there would be slowness and time outs. Also keep in mind that, like Balloons said, Johnny hasn't been moved to the newly installed hard drives yet so he is still causing slowness for the VPS at this time. Johnny will be moved in the next couple days which will result in a few hours of downtime for Johnny and slowness for the VPS during that time due to the hard drives being pegged at 100% usage. Once Johnny is moved and the dust has settled, that is when the VPS will finally get their long awaited speed improvement.

Ooo boy🤩 Does that mean Johnny will be converted to Plesk and the wait is over or some ordinary maintenance?🤔🧐 I can't wait to try it🤩🤩🤩 Thanks to you guys, I appreciate that 🙏💯

This made the response worse, especially on VPS. This storage separation has been implemented in this maintenance. Currently Plesk work is in the Tommy installation stage. This work in the order of Tommy → Ricky → Johnny. So the Plesk installation on the Johnny is still a while away. 1

I thought that Krydos meant that "moved to" means Plesk maintenance because I'm impatient (Just kidding😉)🙆♂️
