mrj Posted January 11, 2018 Posted January 11, 2018 Hi AdminsI am not sure if this is right section for posting this.I am wondering if heliohost can provide CDN for registered users. It's just a Idea.
wolstech Posted January 11, 2018 Posted January 11, 2018 Would be nice, but we don't have anywhere near the resources required to offer a proper CDN.
mrj Posted January 11, 2018 Author Posted January 11, 2018 Oh, it is okay. I think we dont need a proper CDN because our community isn't so large. However not every user wont need this. It would be a good Idea to start with whatever we have. It is my opinion . I am wondering if it will be like http://cdn.heliohost.org. And users can add content from their cpanel after login. ☺
wolstech Posted January 11, 2018 Posted January 11, 2018 That's the thing...we don't have the disk space for such a service. There's been talks of us adding capacity, but right now we're just trying to make enough money to pay the bills every month...
Krydos Posted January 11, 2018 Posted January 11, 2018 The point of CDNs is to have a local caching server geographically near the person requesting the content. That means we would need a server in South America, Europe, Africa, probably several in Asia, Australia, etc. We barely have enough money for the one colocation that we have let alone 6+ more. Then there is the issue of having someone on site to install the hardware, and fix any problems if they occur. We'd have to pay these people. It'd cost tens of thousands of dollars or more. Why not just use a free CDN like Cloudflare?
miwilc Posted January 11, 2018 Posted January 11, 2018 Or a non profit like deflect.ca. However, they have a higher standard expected of your site. Mentioned in the ToS and EULA.
mrj Posted January 12, 2018 Author Posted January 12, 2018 Yes, setting up in servers location is realy costly and pain. Never mind. It was just an idea.
