Bailey Posted October 21, 2017 Posted October 21, 2017 Hello all, Over at http://wiki-dev.bailey.cf is the standard, minimal version, it is available to edit wiki articles like you normally would, you can also create accounts and do everything you could before however, Im currently working on a new custom theme so there will be changes. If it breaks since now or is broken please post here with the date, time and the error you are receiving! This will help me with fixing it and making sure everything is correct. Admins:Could you please post on the old wiki that new edits should be made over at http://wiki-dev.bailey.cf and pin this in "Request wiki access" this would be much appreciated. Krydos, you are still able to edit accounts and promote etc. Ive made sure you still have this ability. Thanks, Bailey
miwilc Posted October 21, 2017 Posted October 21, 2017 Yeah, please try to keep custom code to a minimum as (I assume) we will be keeping wiki up to date because things break; and I like the default theme actually, why do we need a custom one again? Apart from the logo.png missing it looks to be quite good, You should probably demote yourself to a verified contributor after the wiki is ready, the admins need to decide on whether somebody can be wiki maintainer(s?) or if the admin team can handle it.please let us know when your ready to sync to the main domain. Great job so far Also: Please enforce/redirect to Https on the test site. Please. Edit: I don't recommend creating accounts /editing posts on the test wiki, we should wait till it's moved to the main domain. Edit #2: make sure the title URL is <website>/<title> not <website>/index.php/<title>This could be important Edit #3:I just done a slightly more close look. It seems that you have decided to use a CC BY-SA-NC license for the website, I immensely disagree that we should use that license for our wiki (for obvious reasons). I recommend the CC BY license (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/) for our website.
Bailey Posted October 21, 2017 Author Posted October 21, 2017 (edited) I'll see what Krydos says about the licence but I did say that this is the "minimal version" so thank you for pointing these things out, but it will take time. Also, you can edit on the test wiki because it goes to the same database that will be exported because the database went through an update so it was compatible with the current version of MediaWiki. Edit One:Force HTTPS will be enforced when the SSL certificate has been installed. Edit Two:Make sure the title URL is <website>/<title> not <website>/index.php/<title> This has already been done? Edit Three:Logo and favicon have been added. Edited October 21, 2017 by Bailey
miwilc Posted October 22, 2017 Posted October 22, 2017 The article links are still not right, it should be /$1 not /wiki/$1
Bailey Posted October 22, 2017 Author Posted October 22, 2017 No it should be /wiki/$1 because /$1 can cause glitches and security issues... Ill look into it.
Krydos Posted October 22, 2017 Posted October 22, 2017 Great job so far Yeah, seriously. Thanks. No it should be /wiki/$1 because /$1 can cause glitches and security issues... Ill look into it.The current wiki is sub.domain.org/$1 If you change all the links to sub.domain.org/wiki/$1 it will take google and other search engines some time to figure out the new location and update links. For seo reasons and in order to not have a dip in traffic we need the links to stay the same. /wiki/ has to go.
miwilc Posted October 22, 2017 Posted October 22, 2017 (edited) @Krydos maybe we could use a .htaccess as a last resort? Also, what do you think of the license? I would recommend the CC BY as I mentioned earlier, I think it would be ideal for heliohost. Edited October 22, 2017 by miwilc
Bailey Posted October 23, 2017 Author Posted October 23, 2017 @Miwilc, I have to use .htaccess? What else would I use? And as requested HTTPS redirect is now standard throughout the website!
miwilc Posted October 23, 2017 Posted October 23, 2017 @Bailey you can change it directly in the MW settings, it isn't a far stretch. Or alteast redirect /$1 to /wiki/$1 (which is what Wikipedia does.) Avoid directly using the .htaccess it should always be treated as a last resort, since it could break things... Thanks for the Https.Edit: -- @krydos let us know what you think of the license, I still think CC BY is the best.
wolstech Posted October 23, 2017 Posted October 23, 2017 Looking good Any idea why I can't get external images to embed? I'm trying to fix https://wiki-dev.bailey.cf/Template:Server_load The pictures are also broken on https://wiki-dev.bailey.cf/Installing_a_Let%27s_Encrypt_SSL_Certificate
miwilc Posted October 23, 2017 Posted October 23, 2017 @wolstech it _should_ be fixed once we move it back to the main domain. Edit: Nvm, it appears to bad shortcodes, @OP should be able to fix. Edit #2: uploaded Images on the old wiki will have to be copyed to the new wiki, not really a priority since it will be fixed once we moved.

Miwilc, it doesn't break things if you use it properly... and no, it's not being moved to /wiki/$1 because Krydos requests it how it is. Read up a few posts to see what he said about it. Anyway, you requested it to be like this anyway...It should be /$1 not /wiki/$1Looking good Any idea why I can't get external images to embed? I'll have a look anyway, and it is a priority as we can't move it back wishing that it will be fixed!I know that I requested /$1 but directly modifying .htaccess is always a bad idea, I know this for a fact. And I still believe you can change the title path in the MW settings. If that's impossible we can move /$1 to /wiki/$1 to maintain backwards compatibility. I can't explain this better than that. Also to clarify Krydos said we need /$1 to avoid search engine/links breaking, my solution clears all of that, if you can't modify the title in settings. About the external images: yeah, it will need to be embedded.
wolstech Posted October 23, 2017 Posted October 23, 2017 (edited) About the external images: yeah, it will be to be embedded. I assume you mean "need to be embedded"...some of those can't be embedded/stored as part of the wiki since they're actually PHP scripts that output image data (or might be image files regularly regenerated by a PHP script vs. generated on-demand). Is there a reason we can't just link to an external image like we can now? Can the domain restriction be removed entirely so we can use third party images without re-hosting them? Edited October 23, 2017 by wolstech Domain restriction removal?
Bailey Posted October 23, 2017 Author Posted October 23, 2017 Is there a reason we can't just link to an external image like we can now? I think it's missing HTML tag plugin but I can't add that yet as I'm out...
