miccadoin Posted December 4, 2006 Posted December 4, 2006 remember good old DOS operating systems. its amazing how everythings advanced since then. what do u think about DOS (if u know what it is) Quote
miccadoin Posted December 6, 2006 Author Posted December 6, 2006 yer DOS really, i didn't even know that lol Quote
Dragonfire Posted January 13, 2007 Posted January 13, 2007 i really dont get the point of DOS unless you wanna be this compute professional Quote
Quantum Media LLC Posted January 14, 2007 Posted January 14, 2007 I still use dos for many things, if that is the same thing that the command prompt is. I actually use it to do my FTP'ing and to ping client websites and stuff like that. It is like ya'll have said much more stable, and I am actually thinking about getting a pc that has just dos on it. What do ya'll think? Quote
Conor Posted March 2, 2007 Posted March 2, 2007 Linux is just as secure as DOS(if not more) I don't see why anyone would get a DOS only computer in this age but there are some thngs it's useful for. Quote
AverageJoe Posted March 4, 2007 Posted March 4, 2007 Go with linux. It's more secure and can help your comp act as a server. Quote
arunsonnet Posted March 19, 2007 Posted March 19, 2007 I use dos to certain prog. that couldn't run windows Quote
Noxious Posted March 19, 2007 Posted March 19, 2007 I miss some of the old school dos games thats for sure, and the knowledge it wouldn't just crash on you at some random unknowable moment. Quote
resin Posted March 24, 2007 Posted March 24, 2007 i still use it sometimes...but i agree it was never very stable Quote
AverageJoe Posted March 24, 2007 Posted March 24, 2007 I have never used it, do you have to make it your OS? Quote
Mystical Water Posted March 25, 2007 Posted March 25, 2007 Well DOS is mostly used by professionals as there are alot of commands needed to be learnt before operating it and it is also not user friendly. Mostly used in Java and Programming. Quote
echo Posted March 31, 2007 Posted March 31, 2007 use linux lots more commands but its better for developing apps for both linux and dos and bout those old programs use wine Quote
Maxdamantus Posted April 1, 2007 Posted April 1, 2007 I use DOSBox on Linux, so I can play the old classic games, such as Jazz Jackrabbit, Prince of Persia, and the Hugo games. And the command prompt on Windows XP isn't DOS.. It's a command prompt. That's what Windows would be if it had no GUI. You can run DOS text based apps there though, aswell as Windows XP text based apps. You can also run DOS non-text based apps by right clicking on the file, properties, then compatability, changing it to run using the DOS kernel. DOS was the kernel that Windows 95 and (I think) 98 used. Quote
