Shitatsu Posted September 19, 2012 Posted September 19, 2012 I'm having a problem here. I wanna put a password on some of my folders on my website. So when I goto the "Password Protect Directories" option, it says disable the frontpage extension or else put the password from frontpage itself. Now my question is, is it safe to disable or remove/uninstall frontpage extension from my website? I dont know what exactly frontpage is. So I dont think i use it Thanks
cl58 Posted September 19, 2012 Posted September 19, 2012 It is safe to remove frontpage extensions. If you don't know what frontpage is now, you will likely never use it as it was discontinued by it's manufacturer (Microsoft) years ago.
HosterSlice Posted September 19, 2012 Posted September 19, 2012 Yes. I do not know why cPanel still has that in its' software.
Krydos Posted September 19, 2012 Posted September 19, 2012 Heliohost still supports frontpage and has it's extensions installed by default, because web host rating webpages still track it and score us based on whether we have it installed. In order to have the highest score and therefore appear at the top of the page we have to keep it around. Talk to the web host rating websites and get them to stop checking for frontpage and we'll stop having it installed by default. Example: Here is the top result of googling for "free web host" http://www.free-webhosts.com/webhosting-01.php
HosterSlice Posted September 19, 2012 Posted September 19, 2012 I see. They need to get with the times Pretty sure it went obsolete years ago.
Krydos Posted September 19, 2012 Posted September 19, 2012 Yeah, I don't know a single person who has ever used frontpage for anything. Well, maybe my great grandma used it to do some genealogy or something, but who really cares what great grandma's are doing unless it's baking cookies, right?
Ice IT Support Posted September 19, 2012 Posted September 19, 2012 I have a few friends that use Frontpage. Of course now they are asking me to redo their sites...
