Hmm yes, I'll try some tinkering from my side. Anyway I know what went wrong in phpbb, its fantastico, so if you install phpbb with fantastico you can't update it... Fantastico is using a old version of phpbb

Hmmm I have never experienced all the bars going across with filezilla and then it saying file transfer failed. I know that this is most likely not the case but have you checked your antivirus program. (Some restrict the access of applications and limit their capabilities.) Filezilla is also slow for me. Are you using heliohost? How are you uploading it to your ISP's webspace? Heliohost offers 250mb of space.

Ok maybe djbob will be able to help me on this... I have to say ftp was working perfectly but then I went away for while, when I came back it didn't work any longer. I will try the phpbb forums about the install.. Thank you bryon

Yes but I doesn't work with filezilla, but this is all about how filezilla timeout mostly after MLSD.

You can also use net2ftp it should work because it is not a program installed on the pc.

No still not working net2ftp just hangs it doesn't go onto the next page . I am trying to set up my own win 2000 server with apache (I'm not sure how to use nameservers etc. I'd love to have help with that) so i will use heliohost until I can fix that up. But Heliohost is great

Sorry djbob After the MLSD it timed out Edit: Sometimes it works up to when it tries to upload a file such as database_update.php and then it waits a while and says its timed out. Thanks

Lately I have had problems with ftp, I am using the latest version of filezilla. It just comes up like this... This has happened a lot of times... When trying to transfer files it times out and after a few retry's it says... I don't know what to do. I'm trying to update my phpbb and as cpanel file manger doesn't upload folders this seems to be my only option. Thank you for your help.

For activating I may have read somewhere that it could take up to 48 hours, but djbob will probably help you with this. For a tutorial I would use the one on the wordpress website http://codex.wordpress.org/Main_Page, heliohost uses Liunx and Apachie and Php and Mysql so it should work fine. If you are not comftable installing Wordpress by yourself you can use Fantstico De Luxe Heliohost's automatic installing service. To use Fantstico just scroll near to the bottom of your cpanel page and under the tab 'Software / Services' you should find a reasonbly big blue smiley and under it text saying' Fantstico De Luxe'. When you click on it you should see what looks like an apple mac window. The look on the left hand side and you should find wordpress under the title 'Blogs'. Click on it and then click on new installation, and then you can just follow the wizard. At the end you should have wordpress installed.
