That was pretty dumb. I still don't understand why vista gets such a bad rep.
The only thing the antagonists will say is "vista just sucks..." and that's it.
Besides that very legit argument, the problems with Vista include that it eats memory more than any OS out there, it crashes a lot, and its backward compatibility is crap.

It is strictly illegal, you can't do anything fun with ROMs legally.
It's not strictly enforced.
-
It's not very nice to charge for free software. Especially when people can just download it off the sourceforge site.

Emulation is illegal and you shouldn't talk about it on this forum, you could cause a lot of trouble. Enough said.

I'm sorry but...
What?
Maybe I'm slow, but this post doesn't make sense to me.

Yah, I've seen this before, it's nifty. Should be in the humor section, however. You don't get points for regurgitation.

Ya!!! i support the djbob's answer!!
Someone ban this n00b. He's been doing this to all the other forums that actually count posts too.

Cool, cool. I might have to try that.
But for now:
*hugs apt-get*

Nifty array, what language is that?
Maybe when smart chalkboards are developed, we can actually do that.

I personally refuse to hunt for leisure or for food. However, I do not take offense to those who do, I just hope that they are hunted someday.

They fix the dependency hell yet?
*Debian-base/Archlinux user*
In Debian, there's a few dep. problems that tripped me up. I heard that in Red Hat it's worse.

I... don't understand the point of this. It
1.) seems sort of shady
3.) seems to be in the wrong forum
Yah, I'm wondering where number 2 went too.

Hey djbob, are you creating the new design for heliohost.org, or are you accepting submissions from the community? I'd like to have a shot at the heliohost look.
-
Did you make djbob mad? That's usually what happens.

I'll consider it, but my real priority right now is stabilizing the server and preventing the server outages.
However, I think I applied the final update to stabilize the old server today. No more outages should be occuring
All Hail djbob!
Hail!
Hail!
Hail!
Btw, the server crashed when I was presenting my website for a school grade two weeks ago. ;

My son joined a chess club in 2nd grade and was pretty darned good. He still beats me more often than I beat him. I remember running (almost literally) out and getting The Search for Bobby Fisher when he joined the club as I remembered it was such a good movie (for a movie) and that's all I knew about Bobby Fisher. We still watch it whenever it shows on television. This thread makes me want to grab it again.
....back to work. sigh
Hey I've seen that movie! The *sweep all pieces onto the ground and visualize your attack* doesn't work for me .

Howdy,
I'm new here. I've done a few websites over the past seven years and after doing a job at a print shop I let it "slip" that I was a webmaster for five years ending early/mid 2000's and the company I am working for has never had a web presence. So, it's gleefully time to fire this up again. Unfortunately, I haven't had a home on the internet in some time and the languages have all improved/advanced/changed and there's loads to learn. Needing to publish and test a password protected snippet of the site I searched for a space that can handle ASP and Frontpage Extensions as well as other things later on....and I give a big YeeHaw landing here. Seeing that I'm putting my bass guitar down and getting my geek on again (changing careers) a personal site will be following soon after but business before pleasure as they say.
Speaking of business and this being the Introductions forum: So far in this life I've been a professional bass player/teacher, Certified Medical Assistant, Sales of many things, Mother of a thus far 13 year old, Webmaster, SysAdmin, Wife of 10 years, gamer since I was 6 years old.
You ma'am, are my hero. Enough said.

PHP, being serverside, is pretty good at serving all browsers. Browsers just see HTML when you code in PHP.
CSS is tricky. You can make it so that some browsers will ignore attributes set for other browsers, but that's painful to do.
Flash is alright, but a browser can *not* support flash, for example, an all text browser won't be able see flash, period. Then all your hard work goes down the tubes.

Going back to the flashy websites discussion, if you look at corporate sites, say Pepsi.com, they don't focus solely on glamor and glitz, but create insightful content that incorporates some glamor and glitz into the overall product image. They use the aesthetics to draw in the user and provide a suggestion of a subculture. But these sites work to keep the look refined, and cater to their specific user base.
In my own experience I have worked on sites that are all business, and sites that are meant to draw in users via interactivity. I've often found a good site uses both of these aspects. If I go to an informational site the arrangement of the text, and the structuring of the content can make all the difference between whether I can find what I'm looking for or not. And though these sites have little to no need for flashy web content, they still do require some thought of aesthetics.
I like how you think. A good balance between the hacker's bare-bones black-white-blue-purple and the artist's portfolio, that only computers with +1gigs of ram + newish video card + fast 'net connection can view without lagging.
I am actually more on the hacker side with my website, but somehow I ended up alienating visitors with a poor layout , back to the drawing board.

Well, the server switch hasn't happened yet, but I have been optimizing cPanel lately. Turns out the majority of our problems are due to people thinking that its OK to cron some script to run every minute.
Wow... that's pretty dumb. Can you impose limits on cron, like setting the minimum for half an hour or something?
Also, when we request switching to the new server, our data is transfered, right?

Anybody creates game using Flash here?
I feel that it would be simpler and smaller in size.
Easier to distribute online and share with people.
Flash is good, but it has it's limitations. Great games have been coded in Java.

No; your account would have been activated by now. You probably broke one of our rules. Did you read the big, bolded red text at the signup page?
Yes, I did, as far as I remember a have read everything.
I have received my "Hosting account installed" email on 01/05 :
"Dear BartDP,
Your hosting account at HelioHost has been installed. Here is your account information: " .....
"Please note that you may have to wait for account validation before your account becomes active. If this is so, you will see a suspended message on your domain until validation."
But stil not able to logon on cpanel.

When you're logging into cpanal, type in your username in all lower case, that should solve the problem.

Kazehakase, based on the same gecko engine as Firefox, but is wicked fast; it even boots faster than Firefox.
Of course, there are two major disadvantages: it doesn't have many plugins (however, it does support Java and Flash), and as far as I know, it's Linux only.
