Hello all,
Recent downtime:
Yes, we are alive. I've said it multiple times before and I'll say it again: HelioHost is never going to disappear. If we go down for a while, your conclusion should simply be that we will be back up in a week or so.None of your files are gone. You should be able to login just as before.Last login has been reset for everyone, so don't worry about your account being on the queue for deletion. The reason for this week-long downtime was me being stupid. Apparently, there are these things in *nix called bind mounts. Suffice it to say that they are like links, except rm -rf will traverse them. And cPanel uses these bind mounts for jailshell. Ugh.
Bad news:
We're still looking into that DDoS thing from earlier, so user sites are still down. Some libraries stuff might have disappeared from this downtime, so if some of your stuff isn't working let us know via the standard support channels.
Good news:
We're buying a new server. Actually, I already bought a new server. Point is: we have the ad revenue for it, and this recent downtime has only further obviated the need for HelioHost to run on more than one server. Configuration details will follow, but I'm planning to setup the new server as multiple virtual servers. HelioHost and HelioNet will run on an isolated environment, and we'll be running a clustered DNS configuration. We're applying for 501©(3) (non-profit) status. Non-profit = good deals on stuff. We'll probably be offering shell access soon. We'll start out by offering it on select environments on the new servers.
Thanks to our loyal users who have stayed with us through this downtime!
