wapps Posted 23 hours ago Posted 23 hours ago My account is finally functioning as expected. Please make a backup of my account so you could restore if needed. Thanks, wapps Quote
wolstech Posted 21 hours ago Posted 21 hours ago Created. Please keep in mind however that, per our terms of service, HelioHost does not guarantee the availability of the service (including the ability to restore backups) and is not responsible for data loss of any kind. As such, we do not guarantee the availability, validity, accuracy, or completeness of any backup we may have. It is the users responsibility to maintain local backups and be capable of manually restoring their account, if needed. Quote
wapps Posted 20 hours ago Author Posted 20 hours ago Totally confused. I thought you had told me that only Admin are allowed to restore an account with a backup made by Admin. I'm confused because you are stating, "It is the users responsibility to maintain local backups and be capable of manually restoring their account, if needed." In my Backup section, I have made a backup, but there is no button to Restore. Did I misunderstand our previous dialogs? Did you make a backup? Quote
wapps Posted 20 hours ago Author Posted 20 hours ago Here is the prior conversation: Plesk itself is capable of restoring backups (and in fact, unarchiving an account is exactly this), but we don't allow user-created/user-supplied backups to be restored for security reasons, as it's possible to tamper with the backups in a manner such that they would compromise the server when restored. Only the admin-created backup available from https://heliohost.org/backup/ (or the archive from an account that was previously archived) can be restored automatically, and an admin has to do it for you. wolstech Posted 20 hours ago Posted 20 hours ago While we have the ability to restore them, backup and restore is not a service we officially offer. I've done it before for users, and we routinely make them for people, but we do not guarantee they'll actually work when you need it. We legally have to say this, otherwise someone could sue for data loss. For example: If we reset your account it'll be overwritten with the state of the account immediately before the reset, if our server's hard disks go bad or we get ransomware (again) we may lose it, etc. We can't guarantee that they will actually be there when you need them, so even though we have a backup, you are expected to also have your own and be able to extract the files and upload them to fix your account if needed. The easiest way to do this is to simply download the file from https://heliohost.org/backup/ and store it somewhere safe. We can always walk you through extracting it and manually setting up your account if it became necessary, Quote
wapps Posted 4 hours ago Author Posted 4 hours ago Thanks Wolstech for the information. Thanks for your patients, I'm new at this and its a learning process. When I do a backup, you taught me how to restore the files from my backup. This restores the files but not the "settings". I would have to go through the process of getting the settings the same as when I did the back up: eventhough i have setting files in the backup, I can not restore them. When you do an Admin backup, you can restore, not only, the files but the settings also (I think). Is all this accurate? Did you do a backup? Do you only do backups when resetting an account? Sincerely, wapps Quote
wolstech Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago The backup we have on our side would restore the settings yes. The backups you can make in Plesk is actually identical to the ones we make on our side, but since you don’t have a way to actually restore the settings piece of it, only the files and databases in it are actually useful (by extracting and uploading/importing them). Yes I ran a new backup yesterday when you asked. Feel free to download it. Backups/archives are typically made whenever we remove domains, reset accounts, move the account to another server, archive the account, upon user request, or if we troubleshoot an account in a way that risks breaking it or losing data. They otherwise aren’t made routinely. Quote
