Ashoat Posted April 1, 2010 Posted April 1, 2010 Hey guys, This latest downtime was because I asked my university's CS department to try to hack HelioHost given an SSH account (I'm experimenting to see if we might be able to offer it in the future). Basically, I'm running a security audit to see if I can patch all the holes. However, I didn't make it quite abundantly clear enough that they weren't supposed to down the server. Hopefully won't happen again. Thanks, djbob
Dragon_Legion Posted April 1, 2010 Posted April 1, 2010 lets hope they dont do that again. and good luck with it djbob
Mokothemonkey Posted April 2, 2010 Posted April 2, 2010 LOL hehe well i dont have an account anymore so... wont affect me
Ashoat Posted April 2, 2010 Author Posted April 2, 2010 I've patched the main issue that caused this. I blame cPanel.

Ashoat Posted April 5, 2010 Author Posted April 5, 2010 I don't know. I need more people to run security audits.
Ashoat Posted April 8, 2010 Author Posted April 8, 2010 Okay, I've upgrade the kernel version now as well.
hermetic Posted April 12, 2010 Posted April 12, 2010 Well I think --and I suppose the other members are of the same mind-- downtime is quite tolerable if it means getting SSH access. The shell is always a good tool to have, regardless of how useful cPanel is.
