OK to change permissions on settings.php file

Hi -

I noticed the permissions on file '/public_html/mydrupal/sites/default/settings.php' (inside my Drupal installation directory) are read-only.

Is it ok if I switch the permissions on this file to read-write?

The reason I wanted to edit this file is in order to redirect the URL http://mydomain.com to http://mydomain.com/mydrupal for my Drupal site - while still displaying http://mydomain.com in the browser's address field, as per this suggestion:

Thanks.

Well if it's in your account, then yeah, sure. If you screw up your account though, it's not our fault. ;) I know a few people who have deleted public_html/ before with bad results.

Tanks, Wizard.

Yeah, it is in my account. If I screw up my Drupal installation, I guess I can just delete it and re-install it from scratch. I haven't added any content yet anyways. I'm still on square one, just trying to get my base URL to redirect to a subdirectory, while still looking pretty.

Drupal-specific comment:

Strangely enough, when I go to http://mydomain.com now it does redirect properly, and it does display the $base_url http://mydomain.com which is what I wanted - without my having edited '/public_html/mydrupal/sites/default/settings.php'. Maybe the system is clairvoyant or something. ;)

Thanks!
