dev0x0 Posted September 26, 2018 Posted September 26, 2018 So I have a few questions in regards to how HelioMine works. First, I was looking at the scoreboard, and noticed there are two columns in regards to how much I've mined in USD: USD This Month, and USD Total. Which column should I pay attention to in regards to figuring out how much I've mined thus far, as it seems the two columns' values are nowhere near each other. At this point in time, USD This Month has a value of 0.01 and USD Total has a value of 0.05. Have I mined $0.05 so far, or am I still at (or under) $0.01? Second, I've been looking at my hashrate and it seems like it's good... but I have next to no real experience in mining cryptocurrency whatsoever. So I would like to know if the terminal output below is decent. The current hardware in this PC are:AMD Ryzen 7 1700 (base speeds, not overclocked)ASRock X370 Pro4 ATX AM4 MotherboardTeam Vulcan 16GB DDR4 RAM (2400MHz / CAS 14)XFX Radeon R9 290X 8GBXubuntu 18.04.1 LTS (Was on an Arch install from scratch, but I really wanted to use HelioMine haha!) < ----------------------------------------------------------------- < Totals (ALL): 1255.9 1218.6 1215.2 H/s Time: 51 minutes Speed: 1218.6 H/s Credits: 199 < Highest: 1259.2 H/s < ----------------------------------------------------------------- Should I be expecting a higher hashrate, or is this hashrate around where it normally is? Also, I was wondering if I could utilize my R9 290X GPU for mining with HelioMine as I've read/heard it's good for mining cryptocurrency. I will more than likely donate through PayPal again this month, but I would like to give more where I can through using HelioMine while I sleep. If anyone can give any advice or suggestions on how to utilize HelioMine more efficiently, or even a cryptocurrency to mine that would be more profitable, please don't hesitate to let me know!
wolstech Posted September 26, 2018 Posted September 26, 2018 That sounds about right for a Ryzen 1700. Rebooting before mining sometimes make it faster. That hash rate does not include the GPU. The software should automatically use it if it were available. When the miner starts is there a warning about "AMD backend disabled"? If so. What error is showing? The message will show toward the end when the actual mining assignment initially starts working.
dev0x0 Posted September 26, 2018 Author Posted September 26, 2018 (edited) Well I haven't seen any errors besides this: < ------------------------------------------------------------------- < [2018-09-26 03:07:50] : Mining coin: turtlecoin < [2018-09-26 03:07:50] : Starting 1x thread, affinity: 0. < [2018-09-26 03:07:50] : hwloc: memory pinned < [2018-09-26 03:07:50] : Starting 1x thread, affinity: 1. < [2018-09-26 03:07:50] : MEMORY ALLOC FAILED: mmap failed < [2018-09-26 03:07:50] : hwloc: memory pinned < [2018-09-26 03:07:50] : Starting 1x thread, affinity: 2. < [2018-09-26 03:07:50] : MEMORY ALLOC FAILED: mmap failed < [2018-09-26 03:07:50] : hwloc: memory pinned < [2018-09-26 03:07:50] : Starting 1x thread, affinity: 3. < [2018-09-26 03:07:50] : MEMORY ALLOC FAILED: mmap failed < [2018-09-26 03:07:50] : hwloc: memory pinned < [2018-09-26 03:07:50] : Starting 1x thread, affinity: 4. < [2018-09-26 03:07:50] : MEMORY ALLOC FAILED: mmap failed < [2018-09-26 03:07:50] : hwloc: memory pinned < [2018-09-26 03:07:50] : Starting 1x thread, affinity: 5. < [2018-09-26 03:07:50] : MEMORY ALLOC FAILED: mmap failed < [2018-09-26 03:07:50] : hwloc: memory pinned < [2018-09-26 03:07:50] : Starting 1x thread, affinity: 6. < [2018-09-26 03:07:50] : MEMORY ALLOC FAILED: mmap failed < [2018-09-26 03:07:50] : hwloc: memory pinned < [2018-09-26 03:07:50] : Starting 1x thread, affinity: 7. < [2018-09-26 03:07:50] : MEMORY ALLOC FAILED: mmap failed < [2018-09-26 03:07:50] : hwloc: memory pinned < [2018-09-26 03:07:50] : Starting 1x thread, affinity: 8. < [2018-09-26 03:07:50] : MEMORY ALLOC FAILED: mmap failed < [2018-09-26 03:07:50] : hwloc: memory pinned < [2018-09-26 03:07:50] : Starting 1x thread, affinity: 9. < [2018-09-26 03:07:50] : MEMORY ALLOC FAILED: mmap failed < [2018-09-26 03:07:50] : hwloc: memory pinned < [2018-09-26 03:07:50] : Starting 1x thread, affinity: 10. < [2018-09-26 03:07:50] : MEMORY ALLOC FAILED: mmap failed < [2018-09-26 03:07:50] : hwloc: memory pinned < [2018-09-26 03:07:50] : Starting 1x thread, affinity: 11. < [2018-09-26 03:07:50] : MEMORY ALLOC FAILED: mmap failed < [2018-09-26 03:07:50] : hwloc: memory pinned < [2018-09-26 03:07:50] : Starting 1x thread, affinity: 12. < [2018-09-26 03:07:50] : MEMORY ALLOC FAILED: mmap failed < [2018-09-26 03:07:50] : hwloc: memory pinned < [2018-09-26 03:07:50] : Starting 1x thread, affinity: 13. < [2018-09-26 03:07:50] : MEMORY ALLOC FAILED: mmap failed < [2018-09-26 03:07:50] : hwloc: memory pinned < [2018-09-26 03:07:50] : Starting 1x thread, affinity: 14. < [2018-09-26 03:07:50] : MEMORY ALLOC FAILED: mmap failed < [2018-09-26 03:07:50] : hwloc: memory pinned < [2018-09-26 03:07:50] : Starting 1x thread, affinity: 15. < [2018-09-26 03:07:50] : MEMORY ALLOC FAILED: mmap failed < [2018-09-26 03:07:50] : hwloc: memory pinned < [2018-09-26 03:07:50] : MEMORY ALLOC FAILED: mmap failed < [2018-09-26 03:07:50] : Fast-connecting to trtl.pool.mine2gether.com:2225 pool ... < [2018-09-26 03:07:50] : Fast-connecting to us.turtlepool.space:3333 pool ... Oddly enough, my CPU temps do not increase as well, but my CPU indicator is showing 100% full load when running HelioMine. Also, you're right! Rebooting gave me a ~20 H/s increase. wolstech Posted September 26, 2018 Posted September 26, 2018 Ack, I just realized you're using the Linux version...HelioMine on Linux can't use GPUs due to the complexity associated with configuration. They can be made to work, but you'll need to play around with your video drivers and the config files to get it working. I think you might also need to edit the heliomine.sh script to remove the --no-AMD flag from the command line for xmr-stak. The docs for the actual miner should help here: https://github.com/fireice-uk/xmr-stak Krydos developed the Linux version so he would be the one who would know more. I built the Windows version. The Windows version just supports GPUs out of the box.
dev0x0 Posted September 26, 2018 Author Posted September 26, 2018 Ah I see! Well, I think I'll have to tinker around with this when I get up later. I've looked through the script and found no AMD flag, but I'm probably looking through the wrong file... it's really late anyways for me. If all else fails, I might dual -boot with Win10 and use it for HelioMine and some Windows only software. I've been trying to steer clear of Windows, but I think it's inevitable I'll have to dabble in it every so often. Haha! Thanks for your help in this matter!
wolstech Posted September 26, 2018 Posted September 26, 2018 It's possible there is no flag set and it's just not detecting the card. I forget how the thing works on Linux since I don't normally work with that version. Let us know if you need any further help with it

wolstech Posted September 26, 2018 Posted September 26, 2018 (edited) Next time you run it, it should use the GPU. It defaults to XMRIG on Windows systems because most people have Intel crap that can't be used for mining... I just manually switched your PC to the other assignment that will do GPUs. The video card is now reporting as AMD R9 200 series vs. unidentified on linux, so it should produce something the next time you mine. If you're currently mining, close the miner window and restart it. Note that you may see two assignments running now too. I'm not sure if that GPU is going to handle the supplemental assignment or not though. Edited September 26, 2018 by wolstech GPU assignments
dev0x0 Posted September 26, 2018 Author Posted September 26, 2018 (edited) Thank you very much! Just restarted HelioMine and my GPU fans started ramping up! Though I restarted HelioMine just now, and now I'm getting this error: [2018-09-26 11:51:19] [aeon.sumominer.com:3333] error: "invalid address used for login", code: -1 EDIT: I think I may have screwed something up here. :/ Sorry about that... Edited September 26, 2018 by dev0x0
wolstech Posted September 26, 2018 Posted September 26, 2018 Your antivirus blocked the assignments from running and it switched to an obsolete assignment that doesn't work anymore. I reset the assignments. Did you whitelist the assignments folder as instructed in the installer? The instructions are also in the included Antivirus Notice document.
dev0x0 Posted September 26, 2018 Author Posted September 26, 2018 (edited) Oops... I totally skipped that step. Well, now I've added them to the exclusions and it's working again! Thanks for your help! EDIT: Well, it's erroring again, this time with NVIDIA errors for some odd reason. I think I'll just donate on a month to month basis and skip the mining. Besides, I don't want to put anymore stress on my hardware and degrade their lifetime. I appreciate all the help though, and I apologize if this was a waste of time.
