Clint Posted May 26, 2008 Posted May 26, 2008 hey, i just wanted to know how "open" is the hosting thats on here. I mean can i do my own hosting? Or do i have to do it from my own computer and then just use the domain hosting thats provided on here
Wizard Posted May 26, 2008 Posted May 26, 2008 I'm sorry but... What? Maybe I'm slow, but this post doesn't make sense to me.
awesomegamer Posted May 26, 2008 Posted May 26, 2008 Do you mean the files are on your computer? No. They are on the server.
JcX Posted May 27, 2008 Posted May 27, 2008 Did you ever host any web before? Files on all web hosting are on server, if you would like to have it on your PC, there's 2 ways I could recommend. 1. Go to http://no-ip.com and take a look at the services there, it's free and you could host your own web and your domain name will be like http://yourdomain.no-ip.org. (your PC will be opened to public and threats.) 2. Get a new server like djbob did, and host your own server.
AverageJoe Posted May 27, 2008 Posted May 27, 2008 No, you can't host accounts for other people. You can put anything in the www folder so that your contents are visible to others (ie your web pages). You can change file permissions, create email accounts, cron jobs, etc. You can't edit the server os configuration or overall server settings though. Joe
