awesomegamer Posted July 1, 2007 Posted July 1, 2007 I'm not sure if it's just my ISP or what, but at random times for a while helionet.org cannot be found by Firefox AOL or IE. Is it just me? Anything I can do about it? Sometimes I'll be in the middle of reading the forums and when I click to read a topic or whatever the server cannot be found. I am using AOL's dialup service, and usually browse with FF. EDIT: Unless it's random as well, skipping the DNS and directly going to the IP worked at a 100% success rate for me (so far) where as just reloading the domain works at about 1%.
karath Posted July 2, 2007 Posted July 2, 2007 Maybe there is something wrong with the DNS if the IP still works. Let's wait for DJbob for his say on this.
Quantum Media LLC Posted July 2, 2007 Posted July 2, 2007 i would have this problem myself. i have broadband so i am not sure if this can work for you but i use open dns their website is www.opendns.com
awesomegamer Posted July 2, 2007 Author Posted July 2, 2007 I told djbob about it, I mainly just wanted to know if this happens to anyone else. I'm guessing its my service : /
Quantum Media LLC Posted July 2, 2007 Posted July 2, 2007 if it happens again try using a proxy.... though it's not allowed... heres a website that uses a proxy... dont change any settings just type www.helionet.org in the box on their site... www.blockmenot.com
awesomegamer Posted July 2, 2007 Author Posted July 2, 2007 yeah, I tried it just as a test but they all failed, which I thought was really weird : / it hasn't failed me but once today for about 30 minutes.
Quantum Media LLC Posted July 3, 2007 Posted July 3, 2007 sounds like it could be your service provider... are you guys able to get cable or broadband internet.... your paying aol just as much as you would a cable internet provider lol
awesomegamer Posted July 3, 2007 Author Posted July 3, 2007 yeah, but my mom is too lazy and doesn't want to : /
Asgard Posted July 3, 2007 Posted July 3, 2007 Hm, I have had the same problem of not being able to access the forum. I wasn't able to access it for an entire day though. By the way, why doesn't your mom want that then? Because... If the difference in cost is so big, then it'd be logical to go for cable...
awesomegamer Posted July 3, 2007 Author Posted July 3, 2007 She doesn't want to set it up or have someone do it for us either. She doesn't want it because we're on an unlimited usage plan and she doesn't need the speed anyway.
Quantum Media LLC Posted July 3, 2007 Posted July 3, 2007 got ya... i do feel sorry for you though... dialup is not that fast lol
awesomegamer Posted July 3, 2007 Author Posted July 3, 2007 nope, I'm at my firiends hose some times and they download a movie in like 30 minutes whereas it would take me about 36 hours : (
ShannenName Posted July 4, 2007 Posted July 4, 2007 Yes i've noticed it's been happening since I joined but i thought it was just me, turns it it's not, been off all day now and just turned back on
Elivmar Posted July 6, 2007 Posted July 6, 2007 I get this problem too. It used to be more frequent when I first joined and I wouldn't be able to get on for a whole day sometimes. Now it doesn't happen as much or last as long. I use Firefox and have a cable connection. Also I referred my friend here and he wasn't able to get to the forums at all and still can't.
