[Answered] Deploy Asp.net Site

Hello everybody,

 

I have one noobish question I have my ASP.Net web application. What should I do in order to upload it to the server? Should I upload all files and folder direct, using FTP client, or I should do it another way? If there is already any topic about this question, can you give me the link.

I used Visual Studio's FTP method. It uploaded all my files to the server. But when I try to open some of the pages, its HTML code appear instead. You can check from here http://taran.heliohost.org/login.aspx . If you open this: http://taran.heliohost.org/ you can see what files have I uploaded. Are there any settings on the server, that I have to do, before uploading it. Or am I uploading wrong files. In Visual Studio I created New Project, not New Web Site, and from there I created my ASP.Net Application. Should I create New Web Site instead?

That's because you created your account on Stevie and that server doesn't have support for asp.net. Only Johnny supports asp.net. You can move your account to Johnny if you want to use asp.net by following the instructions here http://wiki.helionet.org/Moving_your_account

Stevie offers only a subset of HelioHost's features. Specifically, Stevie does not have Ruby on Rails, ASP.NET, or Java/JSP. However, as a result Stevie is significantly more stable than Johnny. If you don't need any of the above three scripting platforms, we suggest that you select Stevie.

Johnny

Johnny is a virtual server on Charlie. As such, Johnny is more limited in terms of system resources. However, Johnny offers the full Heliohost feature set. While this may sometimes lead to instability, it allows HelioHost to isolate such instability to the customers that need it. Please note that if you intend to use Ruby on Rails, ASP.NET, or Java/JSP you must sign up on Johnny because Stevie does not offer these services.

The menus are dynamic so I never thought to click Signup, simply went to Stevie in the drop-down; on the other hand i did check for all the scripting language offerings, where there was no mention of Stevie's limitations and Johnny's advantages. Repeating the same information might be a bit annoying but it helps make things clear and the info more readily accessible.

Thanks for the suggestion. I've updated the ASP.NET page. It may take some time for the changes to appear depending on your cache settings. As an added bonus I updated Java/JSP page, and Ruby on Rails too since they are also only enabled on Johnny.
