The most foolproof solution for that is the <link rel="canonical"> tag. Read more at https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/139066?hl=en. In your case you would set the canonical url to the url without the extension.

OK, thanks. I thought that's what I'd do (option 2), but I didn't want to try it and then find out halfway through that it doesn't work.

My DNS server supports subdomain delegation. Also thought I should clarify, I only have email forwarders on the bare domain, not on the subdomain. The DNS provider supports email forwarding, so HelioHost's nameservers wouldn't be handling any email. Github Pages requires a CNAME on the www subdomain and an A record or URL forwarding (ryanzim.com to www.ryanzim.com) on the bare domain.

Sorry so long in getting back here. That would be one way to do it; however, I was thinking of using a NS record for the subdomain that would point to HelioHost's DNS servers. How would I do that? Sorry, should have made that clearer in the OP.

Firstly, thank you for this great service! I have one domain hosted with you (on Stevie), ryanzim.com. This is actually a static site, so I would like to move it to GitHub Pages but keep a subdomain hosted here. I would also like to migrate DNS for the bare domain to my registrar's DNS servers. There are some email forwarders configured for the bare domain; I would be setting up the appropriate records at the new DNS server. What would be the best way to do this migration without causing much downtime for my site (or missing any emails)? Thanks in advance.

Welcome to HelioHost! The best documentation for php is www.php.net IMO. Here is the chapter on the mail() function: http://php.net/manual/en/book.mail.php Keep in mind as you read the documentation, Johnny is using PHP v. 5.4.41 and Stevie is at v. 5.3.8 ; so the manual may list some things that do not apply to your HelioHost Server. How are you planning to implement the login functionality?

I cleared my cache. First it said: Server not found Firefox can't find the server at rrz.heliohost.org. But in a few minutes it was working. Thanks!

I signed up for a hosting account on the Johnny server on 10/30/2015. I can login to the cpanel, but when I try to view my site at rrz.heliohost.org, I am redirected to a search page.

Just wondering, why are both stevie and johnny using old versions of php? Stevie uses v. 5.3.8 and Johnny uses v. 5.4.41. The current version is 5.6.15 if I'm correct.
